Found the track list on the Japanese HMV website, of all places. To my mind, I

don't think I've heard Ella sing "My Kind of Boy" or "I Found a New Baby". In

any case, there's no such thing as too much prime Ella (though this adds up to under 80 songs - not 139)!

10 My Heart Belongs To Daddy

11 Perdido

12 I've Got A Crush On You

13 But Not For Me

14 You Brought A New Kind Of Love To Me

15 Across The Alley From The Alamo

16 I'm Glad There Is You

17 'Round Midnight

18 Take The "A" Train

19 Mr. Paganini

Disc 2

1 Nice Work If You Can Get It

2 I Can't Get Started

3 Give Me The Simple Life

4 Caravan

5 One For My Baby

6 Lorelei

7 A-Tisket, A-Tasket

8 You're Driving Me Crazy

9 It's All Right With Me

10 Just Squeeze Me (But Please Don't Tease Me)

Amazon.com is listing this Verve title for a November 10 release, here.

As usual with Verve, hard info is hard to find, but the price suggests a boxed set. A review on Amazon.de suggests that it will include the complete Crescendo, LA, live dates from 11-21 May 1961: 139 songs. Don't know where he gets that from, though.

Lou Levy (p), Herb Ellis (g), Wilfred Middlebrooks (b), Gus Johnson (d)

Crescendo Club, Los Angeles, Ca., May 11 & 21, 1961

Could be nice... or a nice x-mas gift for my mom, that's for sure!

Quite a steep price for a 4CD set though, 70€!

Will it include one of Ella's 70s glasses as a bonus? :)

I thought the packaging (and music) was great.. I didn't have any problems with the CD's...

Ella's goofing around on about 3 or 4 songs but otherwise I highly recommend it...!

Yes it's from the same gig but there's no duplication between the individual CD and the new boxed set....

This single one is from the same gig, I gather? Seen it but haven't heard it:

What?!? Are you serious!

So they do this friggin' expensive box set but they DON'T INCLUDE the originally released album? So they want us to buy the box AND the album? Crazy! This is really unbelievable!

Intimate Ella Fitzgerald, Rediscovered

By FRED KAPLAN

WITH all the multi-disc jazz boxes that have come out in recent years — the complete Miles Davis on Columbia, the complete Charlie Parker on Savoy, the complete Duke Ellington on RCA and so on — it’s hard to believe that any significant tapes by any major musician might still be languishing undiscovered in a record company’s archives.

Yet Verve has just released “Twelve Nights in Hollywood,” a four-CD boxed set of Ella Fitzgerald singing 76 songs at the Crescendo, a small jazz club in Los Angeles, in 1961 and ’62 — and none of it has ever been released until now.

These aren’t bootlegs; the CDs were mastered from the original tapes, which were produced by Norman Granz, Verve’s founder and Fitzgerald’s longtime manager.

Also, as far as I can tell, the set is either sold out in most places or it is on backorder. All the amazon sites are out of stock and have switched to the 2 to 4 weeks bla bla.

As an avid collector, I'll do the usual, give the industry the finger and get it elsewhere.

Have to, really.

It is unbelievable. limited to 8000 sets, whereas any other junk gets a print run of 60 trillion copies.

It looks like Jazz Loft is still taking preorders for it.

My understanding is that this ALL newly released material... I have the box... Pretty good (A little uneven... but overall good.)

Isn't the How High the Moon on here on Pure Ella?

This is actually the same source material as Ella In Hollywood. I've never heard that album but apparently it had a bunch of extra applause which this of course does not.

NPR was playing it today and I was blown away- I'm not even that big of a fan. But like everyone else here I've heard like a gazillion Ella albums, comps and box sets but this is probably the best one.

Ella's Verve material is often so weighed down with orchestration and heady concepts that it's a joy to just here her as a jazz singer. The sound quality is really great, too.
