Jazz Kat Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 Is Vince Guaraldi jazz? Is a boeing 707 an airplane? Quote
Guy Berger Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 Interesting to compare the reputations and "roles" of Guaraldi and Ramsey Lewis. Guy Quote
Shawn Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 I'm quite fond of this one. No question to me that Vince is jazz. No question that Vince plays enjoyable music. No question that jazz CAN be fun every once in awhile. Not every artist HAS to push any envelopes, break down barriers, carry the torch of social outcry, make the world rethink the definition of music or save the fucking planet. Sometimes it's okay to just put a smile on people's faces and get their foot tapping. Quote

Brownian Motion Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 I just picked up the Guaraldi - Bola Sete album. The vendor sent me a freebie with my order--a Kenny G. Xmas album! Quote
AndrewHill Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 And the Vince Guaraldi Christmas Album is my favorite Christmas album of all time. Quote
BruceH Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 One thing that saddens me about Guaraldi was his untimely, sudden death. Such a shame. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 "Orange Was the Color of Her Dress, then Pig Pen Showed Up..." Laugh? I thought they'd never dry! I really used to like Vince in the early sixties. I got the 45 of "Cast your fate to the wind" and heavily dug "Samba d'Orfeu" on the B side - so I got the "Jazz impressions" LP. I suspect it might have been the first Latin Jazz stuff I'd heard and I listened to it a lot; learned, too. Then "A flower is a lovesome thing". It was all good. Really nice stuff to listen to. It was kind of like listening to your friend playing. I got rid of the records in the mid-sixties, when I needed to buy a lot of Soul Jazz albums in a short time. I don't really regret getting rid of them. But they were nice. And probably what I needed at the time. This is a really silly question, though... MG Quote
BruceH Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 Hi Bruce, maybe its because he did This one although his interpretation it not my taste... Cheers, Tjobbe I should have mentioned, that's one of the few Chestnut albums I don't have, though I'll probably get it someday, just for the hell of it. Quote
