mjzee Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 There's a pizza place in Stamford that's jazz- and blues-themed: paintings on the walls, laminated tabletops each devoted to a different artist with magazine excerpts, CD covers, photos, etc. (The music they play, though, is always rock-based: Eric Clapton, Joe Bonamassa, Dave Matthews.) We sat at the Art Blakey table last weekend, and on the tabletop, there was a cover of a Blue Note release from Stockholm, Sweden, 11/23/59. Did this ever come out? A search of Amazon and jazzdisco.org revealed nothing. Quote

No, this was absolutely a Blue Note cover, both front and back. I guess an open question is in what country was this issued? The next time I go there, I'll try to snap a picture of that part of the table. Actually, Dan, the next time you're in the area, you should check out the restaurant: Coalhouse Pizza. The 1959 concert was from November 23. They played Lester Left Town and Night in Tunisia at both concerts. Otherwise, the songs were different. Quote

There was a CD. Do you have any details, such as the catalogue number? I searched several sites, but it isn't listed anywhere. Big Beat Steve Posted July 5, 2012 Report Posted July 5, 2012 So the "Svensk Jazzdiskografi" online discography (where these two concerts are listed as two separate entries with two separate and unrelated releases - 1960 on vinyl, 1959 on CD) was right after all! Had checked there yesterday but a conflicting entry in the Bruyninckx discography (which might have been interpreted as the 1960 date being erroneously listed as such for the LP release and then corrected as a 1959 date for the CD release) made me hesitate .... Checked with the Lee Morgan Discography that was included in the Lee Morgan book 'Delightfulee' by Jeffery McMillan.
