Tom 1960 Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 I remember growing up, my mom was a big fan. His television show was always on in our house. R.I.P. Andy. Quote
Matthew Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 (edited) Sad news, I liked his singing, and the show was a childhood staple in our house. Edited September 26, 2012 by Matthew Quote
JSngry Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 I came late to an apreciation of his true abilities. The guy could sing, period. RIP. Quote

Hardbopjazz Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 Andy Williams on the Simpsons. I could only find it in Spanish clip Quote
JSngry Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 I've always like his version of "On the Street Where You Live"...such nice phrasing...and the way he leads into the bridge And that arrangement...whoever did that arrangement had some skills... Quote
Jim R Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 His voice always reached me, even when I was barely old enough to know what I was listening to. I was about five when Moon River came out, and I think that was one of the first things that made me aware of my love of music. RIP, Andy. Thanks for the vids, Jim. I would submit this for a few minutes of focused listening. Check out the range, the power, the timing, the expression... the arrangement is pretty special, too... Quote
Quincy Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 Not everything he did was a ballad. Many years ago a friend included this on a mix tape to show his peppier side. Whether you find it fun or irritating is up to you. Quote
GA Russell Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 RIP. Other than Canadian Sunset, I am unfamiliar with his work on Cadence, and I have long wanted to hear some. I remember that BMG offered a Cadence CD, but I never got around to ordering it. Fifteen or so years ago I picked up a Columbia CD of Christmas songs, and it is an annual staple. Quote
gmonahan Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 He had a really lovely voice with nice range, and his show was always top quality. RIP. gregmo Quote

GA Russell Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 Here is Williams' obit from the LA Times http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-me-andy-williams-20120927,0,509480.story It tells what I think is an extraordinary story. Four weeks before the Oscar television broadcast, Williams was given the gig to sing Moon River on it. He recorded that song and an entire album around it, and that album was in the stores the day after the broadcast. Four weeks! Quote

Hardbopjazz Posted September 27, 2012 Author Report Posted September 27, 2012 A lot of his recording had reverb over his voice. He didn't need reverb; sort of the Auto Tune of the 60s and 70s. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 A lot of his recording had reverb over his voice. He didn't need reverb; sort of the Auto Tune of the 60s and 70s. That's Mitch Miller and Columbia. Same goes for Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis, and everyone else. Quote
GA Russell Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 RIP. Other than Canadian Sunset, I am unfamiliar with his work on Cadence, and I have long wanted to hear some. I remember that BMG offered a Cadence CD, but I never got around to ordering it. These two album covers do not look to me like Columbia artwork. Do you think that they are both Cadence recordings? http://www.oldies.com/product-view/64982.html?utm_source=OLDIES.com+Emails&utm_campaign=2b72a2e1e9-send_153&utm_medium=email Quote
