Gheorghe Posted July 11, 2019 Report Posted July 11, 2019 @Referentzhunter: You are Right, now I remember it, it was my same Impression on first Hearing. I think one must understand under what circumstances the Album was made, it was just the movie score for that Film Noir. For my personal tastes, I also prefer the other records that Miles made during that period, the first quintet, the Prestige and Columbia Albums. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 11, 2019 Report Posted July 11, 2019 This morning I'm re-listeneing to two I spun yesterday: The debut release from Miki Yamanaka, a nice pianist with Steve Nelson on vibes. Grant Green "Carryin' On" Blue Note 80th Anniversary reissue cd Miki's is a very nice sounding release. I wish I liked Joey Baron more--his work doesn't really thrill me, so I'd have welcomed a different drummer. The Green is not among his best work but this new mastering has made me appreciate it more. Some nice song choices. Quote
Justin V Posted July 11, 2019 Report Posted July 11, 2019 Disc 1: I only own this single disc, but I would like to buy the whole set at some point. Quote
HutchFan Posted July 11, 2019 Report Posted July 11, 2019 (edited) Scott Colley - The Magic Line (Arabesque) trio with Chris Potter & Bill Stewart For the decade or so that Arabesque was in the jazz game, they released some outstanding music. Edited July 11, 2019 by HutchFan Quote
HutchFan Posted July 11, 2019 Report Posted July 11, 2019 James Moody - Return from Overbrook (Chess) Compiles two Argo LPs originally released as The Last Train from Overbrook (1958) and Flute 'n the Blues (1956). Powerfully soulful music. Quote
HutchFan Posted July 11, 2019 Report Posted July 11, 2019 Anthony Braxton - Five Pieces 1975 (Arista) Powerfully soulful music (of a different sort ). Quote
jazzbo Posted July 11, 2019 Report Posted July 11, 2019 I finally got around to opening this two cd set that arrived a few weeks back. Nice sound. Great performances. Stan Getz, "Getz at the Gate" disc 1 Quote

Arabesque still releases jazz, just not as frequently. The most recent Arabesque Jazz release was from November of last year. They have an impressive catalog. Now playing: Stone Alliance - Live in Amsterdam: The only Grossman I have and the only recording I have with Don Alias on trap drums. Fun, muscular stuff. Quote

Have you heard their self-titled debut? Very good stuff. NP: Ravi Coltrane - From the Round Box (RCA, 2000) Edited July 11, 2019 by HutchFan Quote
mikeweil Posted July 11, 2019 Report Posted July 11, 2019 Currently re-listening to a lot of Cal Tjader for the revisions of the disco for the upcoming second edition of S. Duncam Reid's biography. Quote
HutchFan Posted July 11, 2019 Report Posted July 11, 2019 On the way home from work: Remarkably assured second record. With Joe Henderson. Quote
duaneiac Posted July 12, 2019 Report Posted July 12, 2019 I was listening to this CD last night. Shortly after dusk, while the sky was still rusty gold, but with darkening tints of blue leading up to the oncoming indigo skies, when the air was still warm, but there was a cooling breeze which stirred the trees, right then is when this version of "Summertime" came on: One could not have asked for a better soundtrack for that moment in time . . . Gheorghe Posted July 12, 2019 Report Posted July 12, 2019 one of my favourite Miles records. It´s so great. I think I first got acquainted to it thru the sampler "Greatest Hits" which has "Valentine" and "All Blues". Incredible that fast Version of "All Blues". Quote

Sarah Vaughan is always great , but what I noticed most is the "Heads of State". I have both albums of them, since each of the players, especially Al Foster as one of my favourite drummers, they all are fantastic musicians. I had hoped they will do a third album Quote
