Over time what strikes me about this one is the precision of the playing. The bright grooves just keep rolling and everyone is rhythmically right there even when passionately preaching' in their solos. These players really seem to be enjoying playing together and there's so much "spirit" here. Joe Henderson "Page One" Blue Note/Analogue Productions SACD. This SACD sounds great, but I also enjoy the SHM-CD and the Platinum SHM-CD (mono) from Blue Note Japan/Universal. It's just a very well recorded RVG date in my opinion. The horns especially have a full, projected sound. ETC. was a great piano player. Quote

I think I recall Ronnie telling that one - i.e. ‘we have Joe Henderson playing in the Club next week’ (crowd noise hushed, lots of apprehension) - before the inevitable... Yes, he had to point out in the broadcast that this was another Joe Henderson. Ronnie, though, was on his best behaviour for the BBC. V few wisecracks - more's the shame! Quote

Now it's another Konitz gem: The slightly melancholy mood, the beautiful playing and writing (Bill Russo) makes it a perfect requiem. Edited April 17, 2020 by mikeweil Quote
