Except with Philly Joe & Milt Hinton behind him. At Minton's, no less. Wonder if that was the only time Milt and Philly Joe got together on record. BTW, when I was just getting into jazz back in 1953-4, I bought those Tony Scott 10-inchers for some damn reason. Enjoyed the heck out of Milt and Philly Joe, couldn't stand Scott. Quote

jazzbo Posted July 12, 2020 Report Posted July 12, 2020 Â Thomas Bell and the Contemporary Jazz Quartet "Another Dimension" Atlantic/Warner CD Japan One of the first LPs I ever owned was the mono copy of the original release of this LP. A Peace Corps volunteer my father directed gave this to me, as part of a box of records Atlantic gave to each volunteer, and he didn't like jazz so he gave me three of the records from the box. This was one of them. A part of the start of my jazz journey (my parents had some swing records and some Brubeck and Ellington from the 'fifties). Quote

Justin V Posted July 12, 2020 Report Posted July 12, 2020 It'd been a while since I'd given this one a spin. Talk about a deluxe package! With my recent Duke (and sidemen) marathon, I remembered this. I've organized the sessions together and am now listening to the Duke and Strayhorn tracks after listening to the Coleman Hawkins ones. Some beautiful Harry Carney here. What a player! JSngry Posted July 12, 2020 Author Report Posted July 12, 2020 or as it was in the stores when I was buying: pretty much a perfect record, imo. Quote
