This is a beautiful CD.  I bought it when it first came out as a fundraiser for that Classical Action:  Performing Arts Against AIDS group.  Mark Murphy's performance of the title track is one of the greatest performances he ever recorded -- very moving.  For me, the surprise standout track was "Little Prayer" by Dave Catney, who passed away from AIDS complications not long after this CD was made.  It's a beautiful song of loss and remembrance which, unfortunately, is now all too relevant once again.

There was a subsequent CD issued by the same organization

I absolutely agree about the Dave Catney piece, "A Little Prayer." One of my favorite ballads, ever. Thanks to all for finding and posting the cover.

playing Teddy Edwards Back to Avalon... Just in case anyone wants to help: What instrument is played in the solo that starts around 1:39 of Sweet Georgia Brown... going by the lineup, it should be Jimmy Woods on alto... and there are moments when it sounds like an alto... but there are also moments where feels much more like a clarinet... or a bass clarinet (especially, it sounds a bit like Eric Dolphy)

with Booker Little and Eric Dolphy and Mal Waldron, et al

Five stars isn't nearly enough.

I feel this one gets unfairly overlooked, probably because it's cover makes it look like a B sides collection.

It's one of my absolute favourites.

A collection of tracks from her Blue Note years. . .all excellent, nicely sequenced, a real treat to listen to as the snow falls.

I've been rolling tubes in my system sparked by a comment by the builder of my preamps and amps. . . .

And man, I've come up with a very different set of tube complements and am really enjoying the sound! It's amazing the different sonic worlds these components can create if you embrace exploration. Warm, sunny music playing as I look out from my second story window at dozens of trees dusted with snow, a cold, serene tranquil world outside the window. I'm thankful for "46" and happy to be nice and warm. And thinking of my Dad, trying to send him mental waves of healing--I owe that man so much and admire him even more.

Now playing
