Two new arrivals. . . . 

 

Sun Ra "Languidity" 2 cd reissue. I listened to the first disc. Excellent mastering.

 

 

Bill Evans "On a Friday Evening" cd release.

 

Listened to this twice while going to and from my Dad's in the car. Sound is okay, not fantastic, and to me it seemed less involving than some of the more recent Evans trio releases, Evans in particular seemed to be less "into it" . . . . I'll listen again soon on the main system and see if with more focus and better playback that impression changes.

An interesting reissue label and an alternativ choice if  some vinyl original Blue Notes originals/reissues are too expensive which is the same also with the Tone Poem vinyl reissues.

This is "The Intense Media" issueing 10 CD boxes at a very reasonable price containing 20 original Lp's in very good sound quality. Have just bought this one at "Zweitausendeins, Frankfurt". Have 4  such boxes.

Even considering that I now have 2 duplicates on vinyl & CD this deal was real something.

Saturday evening I read the Lester Young chapter  from Geoff Dyer's "A Book About Jazz" to a befriended couple and played them my favourite Pres tracks - they were delighted.

Relistening to this one, at home this time on the main system. Sound is better than in the car (of course) and though not top-notch is enjoyable.

 

I still feel that the performance isn't too engaging until later in the concert. So it gets better as it goes along. I do like the work of this trio.

Listening to disc 2. Wow. This alternate mix is fascinating. A real addition to the release.

And the foil cover on the 2 cd set is very attractive.
