I forgot that this is very largely all unreleased so you can't go and hunt down the individual albums, probably good for the bank balance

Spun the vinyl of Vol 2 - very nicely recorded.

With the Tenors of Our Time by The Roy Hargrove Quintet (Verve, 1994)

This album has aged a hell of a lot better than most major label jazz records of its time.

Just finished this absolute beast:

Jaki Byard Quartet - Live! Vol. 1

Westward Bound! - Jazz Messengers

I finally got a CD copy of this, and it' so good. Just the piano. Oh, and on my way to find the cover I stumbled upon a row of very sexy ladies. Apparently there's also a firm of lingerie called Westward Bound. :D

That's been sitting in my eBay basket for a while. I really should make a decision...

Continuing the Picasso theme, sheer big band artistry. Beautiful arranging, notable solos by Jack Sheldon and, of course, the incomparable Mel Lewis.

Don't forget to pick up Live! Vol. 2 and The Last From Lennie's to complete the set.

When I was working on the liner notes for the latter CD, the label sent me the remaining unissued music from the date, which will never see the light of day. It included several rehearsals of "King David" and other tracks from the gig.

It's one of my favourite live jazz albums ever, along with Vol. 2. I don't know Last From Lennie's but will take your advice on it.
