As I know, the 1963 date for Dexter in Paris was meant to be with Kenny Drew on piano, who got sick. Dexter wanted to do originals and Bud would not cooperate on that new material. So what came out was a topnotch bop session with some of the most famous bop standards played by three creators of that style with the fantastic Pierre Michelot. That´s my impression on that album. But as I said, it´s quite untypical for BN. My favourite of that bunch is Doin' Allright. Now playing: Edited September 14, 2021 by BillF Quote
Rabshakeh Posted September 14, 2021 Report Posted September 14, 2021 David Binney - South (ACT, 2003) Enjoying this one a lot on first listen. In a forward-thinking modern jazz vein, with Binney and Potter on the front line. Quote

It seems to me to be part of the same batch as his sixties recordings, though it's not, of course. But the feel is the same and the approach to the compositions is. MG Quote

HutchFan Posted September 14, 2021 Report Posted September 14, 2021 (edited) Next up: The music on this CD was originally released as two Moodsville LPs: Everything's Mellow and All American. Gorgeous, expressive playing from CT -- especially on the Everything's Mellow cuts. Edited September 14, 2021 by HutchFan Quote
jazzbo Posted September 14, 2021 Report Posted September 14, 2021 (edited) I saw this one on the shelf and it jumped into my hand. I’m thinking guitar lately, been back into fooling around with my own. There’s no one like Kenny. He has such strong technique but he plays with feeling and has a great musical sound and thought with structure and drama. I forget how amazing he can be til I put on one of his recordings. Here he is with local tenorman, Liam Byrne, at my friend Malcolm Frazer's house. Liam told me they'd never played a note together before this! Quote
