For me too as a reunion, but I didn´t mention it in this context, because it´s a rare thing at BN to record such reunions, they usually used current rhythm sections.

As I know, the 1963 date for Dexter in Paris was meant to be with Kenny Drew on piano, who got sick. Dexter wanted to do originals and Bud would not cooperate on that new material. So what came out was a topnotch bop session with some of the most famous bop standards played by three creators of that style with the fantastic Pierre Michelot.

That´s my impression on that album. But as I said, it´s quite untypical for BN.

My favourite of that bunch is Doin' Allright.

Now playing:

Over the years, this has become one of my favorite Horace Silver recordings. I still pull it off the shelf before a lot of his classic Blue Note dates.

"Svensk Jazzhistoria Vol. 10 - Swedish Jazz 1965 - 1969 - Watch Out!" disc 2

A volume full of interesting music in great sound. I've always liked Swedish jazz and this series gives a fascinating overview.

Undoubtedly the best of his post-Blue Note albums and NOT just because of Ronnie Cuber, though I AM a fan of his. It seems to me to be part of the same batch as his sixties recordings, though it's not, of course. But the feel is the same and the approach to the compositions is.

Thanks to discussion on another board I pulled out this 3 disc set to listen to--a fascinating collection of full reel transfers of fascinating sessions by this fascinating Quintet.

I was fooling around with a Telecaster and my Fender Jazzmaster Ultralight SE amp yesterday and found some Curtis Mayfield sounds . . . which made me make a mental note to listen to some Curtis today.

So now spinning "Superfly" 2 cd edition, disc 1

The music on this CD was originally released as two Moodsville LPs: Everything's Mellow and All American.

Gorgeous, expressive playing from CT -- especially on the Everything's Mellow cuts.

I saw this one on the shelf and it jumped into my hand. I’m thinking guitar lately, been back into fooling around with my own. There’s no one like Kenny. He has such strong technique but he plays with feeling and has a great musical sound and thought with structure and drama. I forget how amazing he can be til I put on one of his recordings. Amazeballs.

Truly one of the best ensembles ever put together. Thanks for reminding me of this record.

Rossano is a superb pianist and a good friend, too, though the aspects of his playing which I like best are where the influence of his teacher, Barry Harris, is most apparent.

I've heard him play duets with Scott Robinson which were very good.

Yes, Rossano does nice duets.

Here he is with local tenorman, Liam Byrne, at my friend Malcolm Frazer's house. Liam told me they'd never played a note together before this!
