jazzbo Posted February 24, 2022 Report Posted February 24, 2022 (edited) Tutty Moreno "Forcas D'Alma" cd. I love this drummer. His wife Joyce appears on this one too, and alto player Nailor Proventa is awesome here. Edited February 24, 2022 by jazzbo Quote

Five masters who know what to do, and boy do they get it done. And the producer and engineer are right there with them, capturing all the nuances and presenting them to you gently, as if you were sitting fifteen feet away in awe. Such a relaxed swing and careful yet happy delivery. WOW. It's hard to go wrong with Mr. Five by Five!    gregmo Quote

JSngry Posted February 25, 2022 Author Report Posted February 25, 2022 Perhaps not great, but what does that mean anyway? Nobody's profilin' or otherwise not being real, so, yeah, go ahead on. Quote

JSngry Posted February 25, 2022 Author Report Posted February 25, 2022 It's a good band, but perhaps not the best presentation. But this kind of music in NYC in 1968..a hard sell. And produced for the Japanese market to boot...part of a "New Stream In Jazz" series. There could have been a more "hit you over the head" approach to the presentation and I'd not have minded in the least. Quote

This one sounds so fresh and ahead of its time it’s unbelievable. I can’t quite believe it wasn’t recorded in 2019 by a 16 year old auteur on a laptop. Those strings sound so up to date. This one, on the other hand, is definitely old, but evergreen in its own way, still inspired by your recent Hines/Rushing post: Earl Hines and Budd Johnson - The Dirty Old Men (Black and Blues, 1974) Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted February 25, 2022 Report Posted February 25, 2022 Andres Boiarsky - Into The Light (Reservoir). I picked this up during one of Tommy's sales and it's pretty good. I had never heard of the leader but it has Paquito D'Rivera on alto, Claudio Roditi on trumpet and George Cables on piano so I didn't think it'd be bad. Quote
