jazzbo Posted June 4, 2023 Report Posted June 4, 2023 Harish Raghavan “Calls For Action” I missed this one when released, the bassist’s first as a leader. What a band! I’m not sure I would make the same engineering choices, but the music is very good. Alto Saxophone – Immanuel Wilkins Double Bass – Harish Raghavan Drums – Kweku Sumbry Piano – Micah Thomas Vibraphone – Joel Ross Quote

"Samba Dee" is extra fun, so I added that to my June 14 radio show. Is your show available online? 43 minutes ago, jazzbo said: Yes, also good. I've now ordered both Raghavan's, thanks for posting them. That's one of the great things about this place, picking up new music from folk with good taste. Quote

Rabshakeh Posted June 5, 2023 Report Posted June 5, 2023 Squarepusher – Music Is Rotted One Note I've been trying to "educate" myself recently on perceived jazz-adjacent genres of the internet age like "Nu Jazz", "Dark Jazz" and "Jazztronica". Mostly these are jazz in no apparent sense, and the connection between my favourite genre and what is essentially electronic chill out music bewilders me. Also, most of these records don't appeal at all. This is one of the first that I have really enjoyed. I followed Squarepusher for the preceding but, whilst I knew he was an accomplished bassist, I had not realised that he'd taken this turn into music that is at least clearly informed by jazz fusion.
