John Coltrane was a fantastic ballad player all the time. It was only with Miles Davis that Trane usually laid out on them.
When Trane died, Pharoah Sanders kept on with the great ballad tradition. "Welcome to Love" is an album that proves it.
One of my favourite ballads played by Trane always was "I wanna talk about you".

I´ve never bought an album more than just one time. I wouldn´t know what to do with them. Those I had on LP I didn´t re-buy on CD only with the exeption if the original album was destroyed or lost somewhere which seldom happens. I have heard those expressions "SACD" but don´t really know what it is.

I sell or give away many duplicates, some I keep and compare. I have lots of time on my hands and I am interested in music playback.

It's rather easy to google SACD if interested.

I have seen Chet Baker so many times in my live.
The last time it was only a half year before he died and he played wonderful.

We had him in a privat concert in 1979 in Koblenz (Germany).

I missed to take fotos.

Here is a private CD I made from radio broadcasts- Excellent Trio music. Had filled it up with Archie Shepp

An other one with very intimate music (Duo) is this one:

Stan Getz “East of the Sun: the West Coast Sessions” 3 cd set, disc 2

I used to ignore this cd set because of brightness. Now with the Decware ZROCK2 tubed EQ component in my system(s) it can be made to sound just right.

Wolfgang Lackerschmid & Chet Baker - Welcome Back

Later Chet is an unknown territory for me, apart from 'Peace', so I was very pleased to find he'd recorded with Lackerschmid who I've enjoyed elsewhere. This is a lovely album

Jack Teagarden “Think Well of Me” Verve Elite cd

This music again, this time on cd. In this case they are both great. The LP is a bit more “laid back” and atmospheric. This cd is focused and more room-filling with detailed strings and harp and the sound of Jack’s trombone (how I love that sound!) is big and dynamic. Don Goldie’s trumpet is also brilliant and full. (Man that guy can play). I’m glad I have both formats. One day maybe I’ll grab a mono LP.

It´s a very good album but the best stuff was still to come. My favourite albums of him are from 1965-1967, his most creative period. If I should choose only two of them it might be "All Seeing Eye" and "Schizophrenia".
The next Shorter I have is only from my favourite group "VSOP" .
I saw him live in 2005 but it was a more subtile music, it didn´t have that power that I love.

When I started listening jazz I had trouble connecting to his sound. But a few years ago there it was and I love his whole Blue Note output. All Seeing Eye and Etcetera are my favorites but I learned to love them all.

I had a similar experience with Jackie McLeans music. Evidence that it’s good to revisit those artists you don’t really dig.

So true.  What made no impact yesterday might hit you upside the head today.

And that's a nice feeling.  "Hey, I get it now!"  :)

Even about Chet Baker I heard for the first time in 1978 when there was an article about him in Jazz Podium. But needless I became a fan of Chet, as soon as I heard him first, but it was another Chet Baker than the one who got famous in the 50´s .

Well I prefer his earlier recordings  in the Mulligan 4tet and was glad to find these 2 comps

which were issued in Japan only.
