jazzbo Posted May 23, 2024 Report Posted May 23, 2024 (edited) Sure, I'm aware. I'd still like to have an officially released version--in part because I only have a mono button on my phono preamp. Edited May 23, 2024 by jazzbo Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 23, 2024 Report Posted May 23, 2024 yeah, I have a mono pressing of that LP (wasn't chasing after the mono, just what landed in front of me). It's a very good date. Quote

One of my first jazz LPs was Tranes "At Village Vanguard Again" (with Pharoah, Alice, Garrison, Rashied Ali) and then I got my first Sanders LP (Live at the East). I like all those great albums he made, those from the 60´s and 70´s as well as the later straight ahead dates with a typical ts.p.,b,dr - quartet...... everything ! Quote
Gheorghe Posted May 24, 2024 Report Posted May 24, 2024 11 minutes ago, rostasi said: Wow! To have "Live at the East" as your first Pharoah album was probably beautifully intense. My first, as a youngster, was "Tauhid", but "...East" got a LOT of play at home in those days. My LP cover is really old and looks like that, when it was purchased so 50 years ago, when I was a teenager. As late as in the second decade of the 2000 when Pharoah Sanders played for the last time in Vienna, I had the LP with me hoping to get to Mr. Sanders if he would like to sign it for me, but I was to shy and thought he doesn´t look like a man who will meet a fan. Too bad, later I heard he sure would have done it. But on the other hand, I´m a musician and signed albums does not mean so much to me, it´s the music that counts. Especially in my early days of listening to jazz I was very very much in the stuff of Dolphy, Coleman, Cherry, Sun Ra, late Coltrane and of course Pharoah Sanders. I heard that stuff before I heard Bird on records...... Quote

John Tapscott Posted May 24, 2024 Report Posted May 24, 2024 (edited) Back in the mid 70's I bought all of Tyner's releases and I was quite excited by this one. Over the years, I gradually lost interest in him, though I still purchased the odd release. But this one from 1975 still sounds good. Edited May 24, 2024 by John Tapscott Quote

jazzbo Posted May 24, 2024 Report Posted May 24, 2024 ’m glad I picked this one up back in the day. I haven’t heard it in a long time and I like it. “Keith & Donna” Round Records LP The Keith and Donna are the Godchaux, then Grateful Dead members. Jerry Garcia is on guitar all over this album. Keith and Jerry are a great combo. Quote

jazzbo Posted May 24, 2024 Report Posted May 24, 2024 1200×600 116 KB Record 2 My OG copy of Miles Davis “Bitches Brew,” bought in '72 or so. Perhaps mirroring the respect I have had for this album all my adult life, though it has been played MANY times it still sounds great and plays very well without skip or scratch. Quote

Growing out and standing out of Coltranes 4 his percussive piano style was something new. 1 hour ago, soulpope said: The Rhythm Section aka Jaki Byard + Milt Hinton + Ben Riley as additional highlight …. 👍 😁 20 hours ago, Peter Friedman said: 👍 😁 On 5/23/2024 at 5:12 AM, HutchFan said: Yeah. 😁 💗 👍 Quote
