ghost of miles Posted March 26 Report Posted March 26 Still working my way through this one, with V. 17 (Saba/MPS) yet to be opened, and my local store now hipping me to an imminent V. 18 Jazz Behind the Iron Curtain V 1 & 2 coming in early summer. Such a fantastic series and glad that it continues. Quote

Starting off with another disc from this three cd set: Grateful Dead "Dave's Picks, Volume 14 (Academy Of Music, New York, NY • 3/26/72)" disc 2 Quote

Ron Carter “Foursight: The Complete Stockholm Tapes” In & Out Records cd 1 Bass – Ron Carter Drums – Payton Crossley Piano – Renee Rosnes Tenor Saxophone – Jimmy Greene I enjoy the music here. I have it some of it on the LP version issued on Record Store Day. I managed to snag one of the signed copies. I was a bit bummed that this LP didn't come with a download card. I was even more bummed when the CDs came out and two of the tracks on the LP release that were supposed to be "exclusive" came out on a CD version shortly afterward. And truly, even if these are alternate takes of these two tunes, then why release a double CD set titled, "Foursight: The Complete Stockholm Tapes"? Quote
jazzbo Posted March 26 Report Posted March 26 (edited) I have no experience with the LP set as I rarely pick up modern LP releases, and generally ignore any LPs on Record Store Day. "Exclusive" to any release from a record company seems to just mean "right now this is the only place to get it." A day later it may be a different story! The timings are different on those two tracks between LPs and cd, but without comparing those could be for extraneous reasons. Anyway, I really enjoy the two cd set. Edited March 26 by jazzbo Quote

Zensor ZS 135 [Germany 1993] Seems to be very interesting. I had heard Sun Ra in earlier years.  Here is from the tour I saw live, but I had been a Sun Ra freak much earlier and still am, though I don´t think I have more then four or five records. Edited March 26 by Gheorghe Quote

I have a feeling those get overlooked a lot because he’s credited as the leader and probably less well known as some of his band mates. The Real Thing is another gem. And great to see Hayes is still alive and active on the scene! Quote

IMO, Hayes' Breath of Life is another really strong record in this same vein.  Quote
HutchFan Posted March 26 Report Posted March 26 Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers - "In My Prime," Vol. 1 (Timeless, 1978) Solid JP CD reissue I enjoy this incarnation of the Messengers with Bobby Watson and James Williams.  On this release (and Vol. 2), the regular group is augmented with Curtis Fuller and Ray Mantilla.   Quote

I don't know these albums at all so will be investigating them. I recently bought 'The Real Thing' in no small part down to your and @Pim's enthusiasm for it here, and I love it Quote
