Re-listening to this one as I got interrupted halfway through last night.

A good one. . . enjoying Tom Harrell’s involvement a lot.

I think that trio works better without JBL

I generally dislike JBL. Luckily he sits out for a lot of it. I find that when he does play (so far, i am only half way through) it is at least nicely tempered to the music. Not Lewis's normal Coltraneisms and narrative difficulty, although that does show up a little (as I type he is fouling up "Only Sometimes" a bit). Maybe it will get worse in the second half.

What are the other Guidi records you recommend? I don't know him at all. I picked this one to listen to because you made a passing comment a few days ago about ECM albums with colourful covers.

I’m glad I got the complete series of these concerts. Each recording is different.

Horace Tapscott, Pan-Afrikan Peoples Arkestra
“Live at IUCC 11/25/79” disc 2

'City Of Broken Dreams' is the one for me although I like the other recordings by the trio.

This gives a different perspective and is definitely worth a spin

Still enjoying lots of Charles Lloyd after being blown away by his performance at Big Ears:

Those Kenneth Noland works would show up as covers every once in a while.

Kenneth Noland was a huge jazz fan. He told me that Steve Lacy was the only jazz musician that understood modern art.

Don’t know if you’re listening to them chronologically but if you are we’re exactly at the same disc 😇 I fully agree with you: worth every cent. Huge diversity between all the discs. Must say that this very one is probably the one I like a little less than the others from the series.

I listened to them in the batches as they were mailed out. . . and I'm now re-listening. I won't say this one is a favorite but it is far from my least favorite so far--the way it is recorded presents a fascinating tableau on my system, I dig it.
