I’ve been holding this in reserve for the right time and this morning seems right.

Charles Mingus “In Argentina: The Buenos Aires Concerts” Resonance Records 2 cd set, disc 1

I’m a Mingus nut so this was one of the most exciting release of the year for me.

Great album, amazing sound quality for an unearthed 1957 live recording on an "off" label.  The one I have has a different (better) cover on a slightly differently named label, but same material.

Ernie Watts - Unity (JVC, 1995)
with Geri Allen (p), Steve Swallow (el b), Eddie Gomez (b), and Jack DeJohnette (d)

This is excellent.

Thanks for listening, here's how that recording came to be.

I really like this one too.  Excellent band.

Live at Stratford 1957

The opening track is called "Hark, the Duke's Trumpets" with no trumpet sounds at all.  The tune was as yet untitled so I suspect Duke gave it this impromptu title as the trumpets filed on stage, late.

A late start to listening today, tasks got in the way and I didn’t have time to myself early in the morning as Lucinda came to life the same time I did.

Starting off with

The Miles Davis “Bitches Brew” Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab One Step 2 LP box of this release I know so well. Waited about 3 years for this I think and was so excited to finally gei it. I have OG Lps, reissue LPs, and one of nearly every cd and SACD release of this title which is so much a part of my listening world and has been from about '72.

Unfortunately. . . Record One, Side One is defective in a way that I have never had an LP be defective before: there is a very loud low frequency buzz that rattles woofers the entire first side, covering up the music itself. The other sides seem to be fine.

Sigh. I’ll have to figure out how to get a replacement for that LP.

Oh man!  What a bummer!  :(
