In the car earlier today:

Don Azpiazu And His Havana Casino Orchestra (Harlequin CD)

This CD was bought purely on trust in the two performers as I was completely unfamiliar with Alain Guyonnet, whose music is performed here.  After a quick internet search, all I know is that he is a Swiss pianist born in 1949.  From this 1992 CD I know he writes some nice tunes. -- or rewrites some tunes:  "O Gato" had a suspicious tinge of "Armando's Rhumba" about it and "Scent of a Dream" seemed  very "Deep Purple"-ish.  "Nota della Notte" was quite lovely.  Lee Konitz plays soprano and alto.  This is a recording I think will grow on me with repeated listenings.  Definitely recommended for Lee Konitz fans.  He sounds great here.

I consider this to be a 5 Star album. Frank Foster is wailing, Ted Dunbar is in top form, Mickey Tucker plays outstanding throughout, his solo on "Joy Spring" is far and away the best thing I have ever heard from him. Earl May and Billy Hart do exactly what is required.

I also love it very much. I think the Red Garland Trio was a Dream Rhythm section for any Artist, I wonder how it would have sounded if they would have had the opportunity to record with Lester Young. I think it would have been something great !
