jazzbo Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 Now listening to Eliane Elias “Everything I Love” Blue Note cd. Hard to believe this was released 25 years ago! Eliane Elias – piano, vocals Rodney Jones – guitar Christian McBride – bass OR Marc Johnson – bass Carl Allen – drums OR Jack DeJohnette - drums Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted May 3 Report Posted May 3 Joe Lovano - Tenor Time (Something Else Japan). Joe blowing on standards with a nice rhythm section. Jim Anderson captured this session beautifully at Avatar Studios. I have no idea why Blue Note doesn't put this out in their Tone Poet LP series, as it would make an excellent choice Quote

JSngry Posted May 3 Author Report Posted May 3 Along with more material from the same sessions: Hindsight is 20/20, but these "leftovers" are at least as tasty as the originals! Quote

Love who's on it. 17 hours ago, Peter Friedman said: Wish more Joe Pass and Jim Hall Pacific Jazz's, leader or sideman dates, were made available in the US. Only have one of each: Quote
jazzbo Posted May 4 Report Posted May 4 A bit cool and soggy. Going to a “protest” at noon in town, so interesting that this little town is hosting one. Starting off with dsic 2 of Art Pepper “Geneva 1980” Omnivore cd. . . I really like the pianist on this date and other recent live Pepper releases, Milcho Leviev. Sound is okay here–he could be better heard but it’s not terrible. Quote

I've been told that Somethin' Else is a subsidiary of Blue Note in Japan. The Tone Poet series has been used to release stuff from labels other than Blue Note like Capitol, Pacific Jazz, United Artists & Transition. I'm sure if they chose to release this as a Tone Poet LP, they could work something out with Somethn' Else. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 4 Report Posted May 4 I’ve been holding this in reserve for the right time and this morning seems right. Charles Mingus “In Argentina: The Buenos Aires Concerts” Resonance Records 2 cd set, disc 1 I’m a Mingus nut so this was one of the most exciting release of the year for me. Quote
