Dub Modal Posted July 7, 2025 Report Posted July 7, 2025 I'm only just now discovering that Sonny Sharrock kind of reworked John's Children from Byard Lancaster for his album Ask the Ages. Makes sense as Sharrock played on Byard's album. Any other songs out there that use this rhythm? Quote

You can probably reverse-engineer it back to "Equinox" quicker than it would take to think of an exact answer? Quote

JSngry Posted July 8, 2025 Author Report Posted July 8, 2025 Well, it's not that exactly...but probably the root. Quote

jazzbo Posted July 8, 2025 Report Posted July 8, 2025 (edited) Miles Davis “In Concert” Sony 20 bit SBM LP facsimile 2 cd set, disc 2 I think this release of “In Concert” sounds wonderful. I am always impressed by Michael Henderson, his bass playing just always floors me. Gave Miles just what he wanted and was the hearbeat of the band. Edited July 8, 2025 by jazzbo Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted July 8, 2025 Report Posted July 8, 2025 In my car, I've been playing the contents of Coltrane's "The Complete Prestige" box set and when I got to the sessions with Paul Quinichette, I said to myself, "Man, this guy has such a unique sound", forgetting that his nickname was "Vice Prez" because he sounded so much like Lester Young. I haven't spun any 1950's Lester in a long time so I was thinking maybe I'd forgotten how he sounded so... Now playing: Next up will be "Lester Young With The Oscar Peterson Trio". BTW - the other thing I've gotten out of giving this massive Coltrane box set a full listen is that I really don't like Ray Draper's tuba solos at all. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 8, 2025 Report Posted July 8, 2025 Yes, I skip those Draper sessions entirely. Quote
