Beach Boys and Motown have also had releases which were explicitly made for copyright protection. And that was the case for the 36-CD Dylan live 1966 set, which contained some of the most horrible sounding recordings ever (as well as some marvelous ones). Quote
mjzee Posted October 23, 2019 Report Posted October 23, 2019 If you read this carefully, it's obvious why Columbia would discontinue the Miles sets: There are no immediate plans to end the Bootleg Series, but the steep decline in the market for physical product does put its future in some jeopardy. “We have to also see how long people keep buying these things,” says the source. “We’ll see what happens. Right now, there’s a certain amount of physical that still gets sold, so we’d like to keep doing them.” https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/bob-dylan-bootleg-series-johnny-cash-nashville-skyline-john-wesley-harding-886719/ Quote

JSngry Posted October 24, 2019 Report Posted October 24, 2019 That Burton & Jarrett record is a classic of sorts. It's a pop record, almost, and that's not a dis. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 24, 2019 Report Posted October 24, 2019 Yes, I love it, but there are dozens of Jarrett sessions I love. Quote

The American Quartet, the European Quartet, the solo stuff, the long-running trio all have their merits, and are all very different from each other. Quote

Jarrett seemed fairly upbeat about this music around the time of the Cellar Box release. (In the liner notes? I don't remember.) He would obviously take potshots at it because he can't help himself, but maybe leavened with positive comments. 12 hours ago, JSngry said: That Burton & Jarrett record is a classic of sorts. jazzbo Posted November 2, 2019 Report Posted November 2, 2019 Pete Losin updated his website with a retraction: Miles Davis Bootleg Series (October 2019) Contrary to what I posted here several weeks ago, the Sony/Columbia Legacy Miles Davis Bootleg Series is still alive, although the production schedule has been slowed down. Beginning in 2011 and continuing until 2018, Sony USA released six volumes of live and studio recordings. A seventh volume is in the works. Its release date has not been determined. http://www.plosin.com/MilesAhead/mdNews.aspx Quote
erwbol Posted November 2, 2019 Report Posted November 2, 2019 Great news. Just skip that 80s shit, please. Not remotely interested. Quote
jazzbo Posted November 2, 2019 Report Posted November 2, 2019 That's probably next, so long wait for something else. But there's hope there will be more. Quote

jazzbo Posted November 2, 2019 Report Posted November 2, 2019 amazon has it for about 20. . . .More expensive than Jazz Messengers. Quote

Just looked at Amazon - currently way more than $20 & crappy overseas options. Guess I'll just have to wait. My Barcelona shipping experience has been less than ideal, though I haven't tried in a while. Quote

My experience with Jazz Messengers has been okay. Last time it even seemed as if the order came quicker than previously, though it's been over a year since I ordered last. Quote
erwbol Posted November 2, 2019 Report Posted November 2, 2019 (edited) I wasn't aware Rotterdam 1969 had been released. Just ordered from Jazz Messengers for €11.98. Some of the tracks are extreme in length like the 25 minutes Sanctuary. Could it be the re-broadcast was the first set, since this is the second? Or was it edited? I will have to check my hard drive. If they somehow used the original tapes for this Sony really fucked up. That's what you get for not releasing the best shit first. Someone else will beat you to it. https://www.sleepynight-shop.com/product/coming-soon-miles-davis-the-lost-quintet https://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/81976/miles-davis/the-lost-quintet-rotterdam-1969 https://www.amazon.com/Lost-Quintet-Miles-Davis/dp/B07SPFBKXR/ref=tmm_msc_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= Edited November 2, 2019 by erwbol Quote
sidewinder Posted November 2, 2019 Report Posted November 2, 2019 I remember the BBC broadcasting that Rotterdam concert - from memory it was in very good sound. They broadcast about an hour of it. Quote
erwbol Posted November 2, 2019 Report Posted November 2, 2019 (edited) This is from the info file of the Dime torrent I am listening to now: Set list (re-tracked times) =============================== 01 - Intro (00:51) stage announcer (Michiel de Ruyter) 02 - Directions (09.54) 03 - Bitches Brew (19.27) 04 - Sanctuary (16.53) 05 - Masqualero (15.14) 06 - Outro (00:43) station announcer ----------------------------------------- Total time: 63:04 min Quite different times from the Amazon link above. 27 minutes ago, sidewinder said: I remember the BBC broadcasting that Rotterdam concert - from memory it was in very good sound. Digital quality was substantially better than FM and with noticeable reduction of background FM hiss and implusive noise that enable lower levels of musical detail and ambience to be heard. sidewinder Posted November 2, 2019 Report Posted November 2, 2019 Never heard the digital, my comment was about the FM broadcast. Quote
erwbol Posted November 9, 2019 Report Posted November 9, 2019 Rotterdam November 9, 1969. Final show of the tour. Total playing time 58:11 Direction (7:18) Bitches Brew (10:27) Sanctuary (25:26) Masqualero (14:59) Quote
erwbol Posted November 9, 2019 Report Posted November 9, 2019 There's a quick fade out fade in between tracks 2 and 3. Directions could be the same as the broadcast I posted above, which is still on Dimeadozen by the way. I don't feel like making a detailed comparison now. Sound more than acceptable. There is a slight clicking sound audible now and then, varying in frequency, but next to Chick Corea's Fender Rhodes it is inconsequential IMO. And the music is spellbinding. Only €9.90 at Jazz Messengers now. $11.99 at the record label's website. Quote
Harbour Posted November 9, 2019 Report Posted November 9, 2019 My copy turned up a couple of days, sounds fantastic to me, way better than I was expecting sound wise! Quote
