The Rascals, "Peaceful World" (the one with Joe Farrell and Alice Coltrane - a disappointment 35 years ago, curious to see if it's gotten any better);

The last track is kind of cool. I haven't paid enough attention to the rest.

Stax 50th Anniversary Celebration. Yes I know all 50 tracks have been reissued several times, however, IMO, the sound is as good as it gets for these often primitive masters. Yes, the improved sound is worth $20 and it comes with a nice booklet, too.

Curtis Fuller: New Trombone. I have mixed feelings about this release-it's likely that they could have used some rehearsal time. I'd give it three stars. I like Curtis' Savoy and Blue Note work better.

Sonny Clark: Standards. Nice trio work here. I wish we'd been left more trio material. I love his feel on Blues In the Night.

Peace,

Jeff T. aka Blue Trane :w

Glenn Gould's 1955 recording of "The Goldberg Variations" (the new CD/SACD release -"Zenph Re-Performance" - what the hell IS this thing anyway?)

There was a story about this a couple of weeks ago on NPR. Here's a summary of what it's all about. Zenph Re-Performance

Thanks to Ubu ( :P ) I placed a larger Hat order than I should have, from discplus.ch:

Ordered Friday, arrived today from Switzerland - that's pretty quick!

Thanks again for the heads-up, Flurin!

Sidewinder, I consider that one to be a classic! I got it in college, and it has a lot of sentimental value for me. I played it a few months ago for the first time in years, and I still enjoy it. Hope you dig it.

Andrew Hill - Change

Kenny Cox - Introducing

Horace Silver - Six Pieces

Sonny Rollin's Next Album

Horace Silver - Cape Verdean Blues

Serge Chaloff - Blue Serge

Solomon Iloir - African Highlife

Art Blakey - Holiday for Skins

I also wanted to pick up some 80s punk cds, but they were shockingly expensive new. I think I'll stick to the old LPs.

I took two plastic crates of records (rock & progrock crap) down to the Princeton Record Exchange today. I was going to take cash, wasn't even shopping when I saw a mint used copy of this:

NS, that's my favorite Red Garland album (not that I've heard a whole lot of them). Hope you enjoy it.

Can't wait to get it. I don't own alot of Garland (as a leader) as well, but from what i've got i love it. :w

Found it for 400 bucks. Man it seems that all the boxsets i look for are finding their way on used CD stores. Found two weeks ago Miles Davis Prestige, the Komeda set. Lately i had to pass on a Monk Riverside boxset. And i now i find this baby.

Today I broke my piggy bank and ordered volumes 2, 3 and 4 of Allen Lowe's "That Devilin' Tune" anthology. I had previously ordered volume 1. Soon enough I will have a lot of listening to do.
