Monaco, Amanda - Intention

I've got a burn from the master of this (she's my friend's wife), and really dig it, moreso than the first one. Be curious to know what others think.

I have to give it a few more listens, but I thought it's more live and spontaneous than the first one. I really dig it too.

AAJ? I've met her a few times, but haven't talked to her in years. Great player!

Yeah, her husband Andrey and I go way back, and she's a wonderful lady - not to mention a fantastic player.

Good pull. In particular, the Cyrille, Bluiett, and Harris are favorites of mine.

Beny More Y Su Banda Gigante Grabaciones: Completas 1953-1960. The third time I've bought this, each previous time, I've given this box set to friends who heard it, and then, had to have it. It's that good.

Was at the Bastids over the weekend. I was hoping to get the last 3 JiP to complete the set, but they were out. Instead, I got

brookm_bob~_kansascit_101b.jpg

and

zzcultcargograndbaham_101b.jpg.

The second one {Grand Bahama Goombay} is very different than I expected. I was expecting a bit more of a world groove, but it really is essentially James Brown visiting the Bahamas. A funk groove and some particularly strange covers, including Mustang Sally practically turned inside out and a very fast take on Take Five. While I find Take Five kind of compelling, I suspect after a few more listens I will be tired of it. It doesn't seem to have as much staying power as other songs on the disc. I think my favorite two tracks are "Words to my Song" by Dry Bread and "Don't Touch That Thing" by Sylvia Hall. The later one is basically a song warning young women that if they touch "that thing," their belly will grow ...

I bought a "pop" tune from Napster (not my normal cup o' tea). It's a cover of that Simply Red song "Mad World" from the movie Donnie Darko (also heard it on tv commercials and C.S.I.). It CREEPS ME OUT...but that's why I had to buy it.

What's that saying: In for a penny, in for a dollar?

blackfield - blackfield

iem - 1996-1999 (

bass communion / jonathan coleclough / colin potter - untitled

bass communion - bass communion 1

bass communion - bass communion 2

You'll have to let us know how those Bass Communion records are.

I'll post my impressions in the Porcupine Tree thread, so all the Steve Wilson stuff appears in one place. I also ordered bass communion - Ghosts on Magnetic Tape, which I didn't see yesterday when I placed my order.

I think you'll like all of it. The BC stuff is minimal ambient music, so it's really different from anything else SW is involved in. I like Ghosts the best, but they're all good. And IEM is a blast! You'll want the other two IEM recordings after hearing this one, I'm pretty sure.

I love Art Pepper and finally picked up his Village Vanguard dates. I had the Complete Village Vanguard box set a couple years ago but it was a bit too much and a bit too repetitive for me so I ended up selling it. The music is great, but I think a smaller dose without the repetition will be a lot easier to digest.
