When it came out, I shied away from the 'Hot Hazz on Blue Note' 4CD box because I already hall all the music on various BN and Mosaic albums but when I ran into one of those boxes on sale for the price of a single CD today, I could not let this one pass.

Superb box with notes by Dan Morgenstern. Sound restoration and mastering by Malcolm Addey.

Love this!

I paid 50€ for a copy a year or two ago, when I saw a copy here, haven't regretted any cent. A great box, with very good annotation, too.

Mine cost me €19!

OK it was not brand new but the booklet was untouched.

There was a slight problem with one track on disc 2. A bit of spit and polish did the trick. The disc plays fine now

And the set is really beautiful!

Well, my booklet showed quite some wear... it's ok, though, not damaged. I think my box was probably at the shop and open for everybody to listen and look at the booklet for years...

Straight No Chaser (T.MOnk)------one of the first Jazz recordings I ever bought but never updated to CD. Bliss...High inner-atainment value.

Scelsi Morning (Marc Ribot)-----a "new music"/chamber music offering. Not bad, but I wish he'd played more guitar on it.

Sun Ra DVD "Space is the Place". Fun and games. I already own the DVD "Sun Ra:a Joyful Noise" which is a great exposition and documentary of this sartorially innovative band leader. Ra-ra, that's the spirit!

Sales continued at the jazz section at the Virgin Megastore this week. It's almost finished by now.

Several Classics showed up but disappeared quickly.

Among the items I got, all at €3 each:

Frank Lowe 'Tricks of the Trade' (Marge)

Mary Lou Williams 1949-1951 (Classics)

The New Archie Shepp Quartet 'Tomorrow Will Be Another Day '(Pao)

Ed Thigpen Rhythm Features with Joe Lovano 'The Element of Swing' (Stunt)

Dodo Marmarosa 'Complete Studio Recordings' (Lonehill)

Philip Cohran and the Artist Heritage Ensemble (Aestuarium)

Carlos Zingaro/Daunik Lazro 'Hauts Plateaux' (Potlatch)

AND:

The Complete Verve Roy Eldridge Studio Sessions (Mosaic) for €39 ($45)!

One copy only which I grabbed as soon as I saw it!

Great sales with interesting items disappearing as fast as they were placed in the bins...

Not today, but a couple of days ago I hit a local used place I hadn't been to in a while and bought the following CDs:

George Braith - The Complete Blue Note Sessions (Blue Note Connoisseur Series)

Bo Diddley - His Best/The Chess 50th Anniversary Collection (MCA/Chess)

Gary McFarland - Does the Sun Really Shine on the Moon? (DCC Jazz)

Marian McPartland/Steely Dan - Piano Jazz (The Jazz Alliance)

Arthur Russell - Another Thought (Point Music)

Alfred Schnittke - Musica Non Grata (Melodiya/BMG Classics)

Lennie Tristano and Warne Marsh - Intuition (Spanish Blue Note with Crazy blue cover art - even though the damn recordings were originally on Capitol and Imperial)

I wasn't aware that Bremen and Lausanne concerts were issued in separate cds...Hopefully they are at least those Russian licensed cds. I forgot to ask what editions they are before I placed my bids.

Oh well....the total sum for those 3 cds is only around $22 which is roughly around 18.75 Euros with the current exchange rate.

And thanks to J.A.W. for selling me his David Ware cds:

Godspelized

Cryptology

Earthquation

Third Ear Recitation

Go See The World

Wisdom Of Uncertainty
