Covid Still Sucks

So I've had Covid for a week and am still testing positive.  I feel mildly better than I did, but it's still touch and go.

What are peoples' experiences with paxlovid or remdesivir?  Are they even effective after someone has had Covid for a while?

I'm told that Paxlovid should be taken within five days of symptom onset.

I'm also told that you can possibly test positive for weeks after you begin to feel better. So keep those masks handy!

I'm currently this week enjoying a major UK open-air historical festival at which Michael Palin (of Python fame etc) was due to appear tomorrow talking about his Great Uncle Harry and WW1. Just heard that he has had to cancel last minute due to catching covid so it seems to be going around at present (in N London at least).

There current strains are very transmissible, and since most people behave as though Covid doesn't exist anymore, it's very easy to catch it.  People can still spread it without having symptoms themselves.  Yep, there will be a lot this summer.

I've read that there is some benefit to taking Paxlovid 6 or more days after symptom onset, but as Jim already pointed out, the guideline is that you need to start taking it within 5 days. I'd expect that some (most?) doctors might be reluctant to prescribe it after the 5-day threshold has passed. It is most effective when started as soon as possible after symptom onset that has been confirmed as COVID via a positive test.

Yeah I took it one day after my symptoms started, and Paxlovid removed all my symptoms the next day. The doctor's office told me to stop testing myself.

Thanks.  I finally tested negative yesterday.  If I test negative again on Tuesday, I am supposedly out of the woods.

It took almost 6 weeks, but my cough is almost gone. Still get a bit at night but nothing like it was a few weeks ago.

I just went to a wedding last weekend. I hope no one there had it.

Still coughing occasionally. Not feeling sick otherwise, so I think it's probably allergies. Taking Pseudoephedrine (recommended by my doctor) when necessary and that seems to calm the cough.

10 days in, symptoms subsided and back to normal or as close to as I'll ever be.

A slight cough but I have undderlying respiratory issues so that's to be expected. Some fatigue but again that's ever present in non-Covid times.

Seems like a lingering cough is to be expected with this strain

Well, at least I'm testing negative but man, did I feel terrible last night. This cough just won't go away. Does Covid rebound 6 weeks later?

I had it for the third time in August. It was like a bad head cold, lasted just over a week. Sorry to hear that others have had it worse. I keep up with the vaccinations so will presumably get jabbed sometime this fall...

I know about 3 people that are going through it again right now. It's still a problem but just not as deadly a problem. I'll be getting another booster in a few weeks as they roll them out with the latest variants covered.

That happened to me a couple of months ago. Ironically, poor health had kept me largely indoors for 4 weeks and then I caught COVID...out of nowhere seemingly.

Just had my booster which made me really unwell for 24 hours but well worth it.

I wish you well and hope it's not too bad a dose. Plenty of warming and heartening Soul music prescribed I suggest!

Thnx .... til now bearable, for one day severe headache now just the ongoing dry cough (preventing me from sleep) is tiresome .... and you`re right, after the headache ⚕️Southern Soul was of help⚕️ ....

After 5 years of escaping, I still got COVID. 2 weeks ago I had all the symptoms: sore throat, headache, fever, no taste and no smell. It lasted a few days and although annoying it was all bearable. Last weekend I thought I had recovered: no more fever, sore throat was gone, taste was already coming back. Just still a bit tired actually. Then last Sunday I was treated to a serious ear infection in my left ear and the day after that in my other ear. I used to have it a lot when I was little and had forgotten how much it hurts. Really bad. After three days the pain was gone and the fever too. But now my ears are still completely blocked. You feel enormous pressure on them but I can't open them. On top of that I hear a very high-pitched beep in both my ears. Gosh, this is so frustrating. It makes the whole day tiring. Teaching like this is really awful.... my three big hobbies, CrossFit l, reading and listening to music, can't do...it makes me tired and quite irritable and I feel sorry for my wife and children who have to sit in the house with such a grumpy person all day. according to the doctor it should go away by itself. I hope this happens soon then.
