  1. Good stuff. Damn, I have that album and often listen to it! Rare occurrence...our musical preferences don't overlap all that much. 😉 I'm not sure of the definition of "defiant jazz". Does this work?
  2. I donated last night, holding up my end of the deal. Hope things are looking up in Seatle. 🙂
  3. Cue the litany of "I prefer Hoffman forum" posts. 🤣
  4. True, that. How about this...I contribute, you correct the spelling of Mr. Priester's surname in the header. 😉
  5. Interesting 2015 interview w. much discussion of that album: https://www.thestranger.com/music/2015/01/05/21356118/jazz-legend-julian-priester-reflects-on-his-fusion-classic-love-love-sun-ra-herbie-hancock-and-a-lot-more
  6. Did you bother to contact the repair shop about recourse? Serious question, I might have given up and accepted the loss.
  7. I wound up ordering four, but via CDJapan because of order size (a couple of other things thrown in). Got filled on all: JR Monterose, Attila Zoller, Dollar Brand and Tete Montoliu.

  9. Not from me, he won't. 😆
  10. [emphasis added] As is Ithaca, NY, which was mentioned above. Too bad Stereo Jack rarely visits (I hope he's doing well)...he might be able to comment on Bahston, one of the ultimate progressive college towns*. *Despite what Spinal Tap said. 😉
  11. This arrived at "The Bastards" (Dusty) today, so I ordered. Much cheaper US shipping that way. Looking forward to it!
  12. I was looking the other way because I never cared about his magazine. 😉
  13. Damn. One consequence of not paying attention to popular culture is that I don't hear about shit like that. Interesting, I appreciate the info, but not gonna discuss it here.
  14. And he had a sense of humor! Which seems surprisingly rare in the music sphere.
  15. Strange coincidence...I just purchased (rec'd Saturday) from felser a twofer of 2 of those 3 albums (Fast Last! and Rope-a-Dope) on a 32Jazz reissue (American Gumbo). Even more weirdly, the 2-album American Gumbo and 3-album Mirage compilations were both released in 1999. I don't get it.
  16. Sorry, John. No intent. I posted the Chinmoy stuff because I had a funny recollection, deleted the post. I don't care to comment on the rants, don't know any details.
  17. If you Google the character string carlos santana rant, just those alpha characters with no punctuation surrounding them, you'll get more than you could imagine on the recent trans thing. If you enclose them in quotation marks, "carlos santana rant", Google will return additional references to a variety of prior rants. Disclosure: I didn't bother to visit any of the links returned.
  18. Google reveals a recent brouhaha concerning an "anti-trans rant". I'm completely out of touch with popular culture, so have no idea what any previous rants might have addressed. In any case I've never looked to popular figures' onstage remarks for philosophical, moral, ethical, ... guidance. 🙄
  19. I knew Mayo Smith only as long-time manager of the Tigers, including '68 World Series title. Had no idea he managed other teams. Looks like Mayo's big league playing career consisted of only 1 season, so he must have been playing ketchup for the most part.

    Bob Dylan corner

[Emphasis added] Me neither. I agree with the above sentiment that John Wesley Harding was the peak, and Blood on the Tracks is my personal line in the sand. But as a youth I was so heavily into those early albums that it became impossible for later releases to have the same magic or live up to my expectations. So while there have been many good and worthwhile Dylan albums over the years, my attention drifted elsewhere. Hear plenty of his music on the radio, but don't play recordings at home.
