  1. Tough call, but I think I agree with those who've listed the Basie Live Roulette set on Mosaic. That said, the Savory set........
  2. Oh my, this is dreadful news. So very, very sad to hear this. From the first Monk set on, I feel like much of my jazz listening life has consisted of following in his wake as he birthed beautiful album after beautiful album, set after set, opening me up to so much wonderful music. I will be forever in his debt.
  3. Got this one on Chuck's recommendation, and, as usual, he's absolutely right. The sound is very good. Like the video stuff too. Thanks Chuck!
  4. Nice liners by Loren Schoenberg on this one, but no personnel list, which is irritating. Sound is good.
  5. Lord shows Daily on cornet, Warren Smith, trombone; Stan Story, clarinet; Don Owens, piano, Nappy Lamare, guitar and banjo; Phil Stephens, tuba and bass; George Defebaugh, drums. Recorded October 1949.
  6. Continuing my exploration of early Chicago jazz while re-reading _Hear Me Talkin' to Ya_
  7. And the losses of the Deccas too. A real tragedy.
  8. Davies really was a magician when it came to remastering
