    Frank Zappa

From what I understand, the studio and musical instruments are being handled by a different company.
  2. Maybe you could sell the lp for $1,000 and recoup some of your money.
  3. Is this still available? I've become quite the fan in my autumnal years. I will concur on both Evolution I and II. The recording quality is really top shelf as well, something I'm not used to with Atlantic. They did John right for his final releases. II is indeed a small group and not solo but ot is elegant and understated as one would expect from Mr. Lewis. Two pf nis best albums and he saved them for last. How many artists get to do that? *off to google this Private Concert*
  4. Nice job on this artist deserving great recognotion. I didn't know he made that many recordings for Discovery.
  5. WP Carol Rosenberg - Water Musoc Of The Impressionists (DMS Delos) NP Anner Bylsma - J.S.Bach Solo Cello Suites (Sony) BluSpec cd2 my second spin of the Bylsma cd and it's quickly becoming a favorite. Really like his slower approach of the first suite.
  6. Thanks for that! I'll be on the lookout. I've noticed a few cd covers of his albums from that period use the same or similar covers so one has to be careful or they might end up with a duplicate.
  7. NP anner Bylsma's Bach Solo Cello Suites (Sony) second disc (4,5,6 I'm really loving this performance a lot. The instrument's sound reminds me of my Casals recording, lots of wood. His Suite #1 has a rhythm to it that is more of a shifting of tempo instead of hard counts,. It sounds like he is pushing and pulling and gives ot a serpentine feel to it. I find it exhilarating.
  8. WP Bach's Solo Cello Suites 3,4,5 by Mischa Maisky (DG) NP Bach's Solo Cello Suites 1,2,3 by Anner Bylsma (Vivarte/Sony) first listens for both of these. I was interested in hearing more versions of one of my favorite classical pieces.
  9. Thanks for the clarification Lon. That explains why I missed it back in my obsessive Hank Jones period, not to be confused with my current obsession with his Japanese pressings.
  10. I thought for sure I had that Hank Jones on cd. So I checked and out of three cds of Savoy material none is solo. Was the solo album released with the back of the cd tray purple with yellow print? My three are from that series.
  11. I was afraid of that. I paid a little over $200 but it's been a while. It sounds very good and I like the build quality. It has a headphone option for personal playing and you can drive an additional speaker if desirable.
  12. I'm surprised no one mentioned Jessica Williams. For my money one of the best interpreters of Monk. She's far from a mere copiest. So my choice is her In The Key Of Monk on the Canadian label Jazz Focus. It's a live solo album of songs by Monk, for Monk or associated with Monk.
  13. Yeah, that's the one I want! Heh. i have his first on vinyl (The Inverted Image) but I don't have the second album included in that twofer. I can recommend his solo albums on Maple Shade and a duo album with Charlie Haden on Naim. The latter was available on vinyl as well as cd but they are probably OOP. That's a great deal for the twofer. Is it mastered from a cd?
  14. Yeah, that would leave a bad taste in my mouth too.
  15. http://www.ztamplifiers.com/lunchbox-amp.html is what I have. It is very light and easy and built like a tank. I use it when I play out which is rare these days but I don't take my Fender VibroChamp out anymore. It's too valuable to me in a variety of ways. it's not worth risking anything happening to it. So this Lunchbox is simple and easy and not expensive or at least not when I bought it. I've had zero problems with it. It has a good sound even though the tone is controled by one nob.
  16. I wish they could have played in Northern California but I guess it wasn't possible. The venues are drying up. Whatever the reason, ot's a shame. I could buy the cd.
  17. That was a good experience for you it sounds like. You can tell how well someone is thought of sometimes by the number of people at their funeral.
  18. For some reason I only own Night Song as far as Kenny's Verve albums. Everything I own is on Blue Note, Prestige or New Jazz I think. Plus Fantasy for the Ellington double albums. I tend to shy away from jazz and orchestra projects. Not sure why I haven't picked them up other than I have a lot of his muskc. I love his playing so I'm always shocked to hear his critics go at him.
  19. Interesting note on Jessica Williams, they state they are waiting for an update on her bio and include a link to a Wiki page instead of her own jessicawilliams.com website.
  20. I've had the same situation a few times. It's different at the tme an album is released because of the time between the last release and how it was received, expctations, etc. With the passage of time, what seemed important at that time no longer matters so much and I sometimes hear the music differently. I find it interesting.
  21. R.I.P. to an artist I was just starting to discover. I own a whoppng two cds by him. I don't know how he escaped my radar but he did. I don't see his music in my local stores so I ended up ordering on line.
  22. Sanborn hosted a tv show in the 90s called Night Music and he sat in with many of his guests including Tim Berne, Howard Roberts and Joey Baron and a few other guests who were pretty edgy and he really rose to the challenge and played really well. He's more than a one trickpony, that's for sure.
  23. Well, you don't grow a business like he has by sitting on your tush.
  24. Chet Baker - Chet (Riverside) OJC stereo pressing. i never tire of this album.
