  1. Mosaics you’re still on the hunt for

Don Pullen Select. Just discovering those records, and really enjoying them. I have the Black Saint/Soul Note box, need to revisit those again soon.

  4. Anthony Braxton Quartet: Dortmund 1976

Excellent! Looking forward to owning a "proper" copy of this wonderful record. I recall trying to find it on eBay a few years back...
  5. Roscoe Mitchell - Littlefield Concert Hall

I'm still enjoying the struggle to get my head wrapped around Ride the Wind. That music of that complexity and beauty can even be imagined, let alone composed and executed, is truly amazing to me. I'm interested in hearing this record. The duplicated composition... which one is it?
  6. Seconded! One of my favorite Selects as well, great price!
  7. What vinyl are you spinning right now??

Eddie Costa - The House of Blue Lights
  8. What vinyl are you spinning right now??

Von Freeman - Doin' It Right Now. Love me some Von, and really enjoying John Young (piano).
  9. What vinyl are you spinning right now??

Von Freeman - Young and Foolish. (John Young, piano)
  10. Donny McCaslin

Saw him live a few years ago, I think it was the same band as the NPR concert. Really enjoyed the show, Guiliana in particular. I'm not yet quite sure why, but I'm really loving this right now... from his new album "Blow."...
  11. Cedar Walton

I've been on a Cedar Walton kick lately, and I'm really enjoying everything I'm hearing so far. I first came across his playing on some of his appearances with Lee Morgan, and then after hearing David Hazeltine (who seems to be influenced by Cedar), I've been looking for more of Cedar's recordings. So far, I've been listening to: Cedar Walton: Manhattan Afternoon, Cedar!, Plays Cedar Walton, and The Promise Land Lee Morgan: Sonic Boom, Charisma Art Blakey: Indestructible, Ugetsu After looking at AMG's Discography and "Appears On" list, it's difficult to figure out where to go next. Any recommendations? Is Cedar still actively recording and/or touring? Although it appears to be somewhat obscure, Dexter Gordon's Gotham City may be next on the list, as it was recommended by a guitar instructor -- George Benson on guitar, plus Cedar on piano. Thanks in advance!
  12. Remnants of an earlier life

Many hours of great music and conversation. Thanks, Chuck!!
  13. Roscoe Mitchell + 20 in Canada

Thanks, Chuck. I'm gonna need to spend some time with that recording!
  14. Had enough of this joint...

"Not gonna be a drama queen"... way too late for that. Dan summed it up exactly right.
  15. Roscoe Mitchell + 20 in Canada

    Well, how did things go?
  16. Sonny Sharrock: Ask the Ages

Back in print... relelase date 11/13/2015: Amazon Just discovered this record recently... rather than download the MP3s, I think I'll wait and order the CD. Anyone have any more info on this?
  17. I listened to "The Epic" on Youtube, with the thought that I would buy it if anything really "hit" me. Three CDs worth of material is a lot to digest, and while I did hear some things that were pretty interesting, nothing really stood out. It did, however, lead me back to some Coltrane records I haven't listened to in quite awhile. I'll give it another listen at some point. For now, I'll continue to spin Kendrick Lamar's latest record, which is friggin' fantastic.
  18. Viva Prog Rock

Not exactly "prog" rock as I understand it, but any band that plays in 7 and makes it work is always interesting to me: Band of Skulls - "Wanderluster": https://youtu.be/N2Rx_Npi4l0?t=5m32s
  19. Last night was Organissimo's 15th anniversary celebration at Randissimo's weekly jam session in Grand Rapids. LOTS of people there, great music, great energy!!!
  20. Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?

MS-001 Mosaic Select: Grachan Moncur, Disc 3, "Hipnosis" session. As has been discussed elsewhere on this board, this Select is as much a Jackie McLean set as it is Grachan Moncur. It's the first Select I purchased, and still one of my favorites. Always hear something new every time I put it on. Today, it's Billy Higgins' ride cymbal phrasing and comping (with the snares off) on "Hipnosis"... so good!!!
  21. just another bluenote, not

Interesting question... Charisma is one of my favorite Lee Morgan records, along with Search for the New Land and The Procrastinator. I was always puzzled by the apparent lack of enthusiasm for that record, both here and (if I remember correctly), in the Penguin Guide.
  22. Viva Prog Rock

Liking this on first listen. Thanks, Shawn.
  23. Sonny Sharrock: Ask the Ages

Yes! I've been listening to it on youtube... and curious about the re-issue. It looks like it was one of those hard to find/out of print) discs that apparently fetches $30 or more on the used market.
