  1. I always thought a good name for a second hand Indian wear shop would be Who's Sari Now?
  2. Years ago, if that nonsense went down on a school bus, the kids probably would have been expelled. And the parents would have punished them severely once they got home. Dumb little fucks. That whole story sickens me. Once that shit started, the guilty little pricks should have been slapped down in their seats and told to STFU. But then the school would get sued.
  3. I have just picked up another ES 335 copy. This one made by Jay Turser. I had always thought that Turser's stuff was crap, but that was hearsay. A guitarist I work with has one, a copy of a ES-175. And it sounds and plays very well. The tuners are kind of on the cheap side though. But for the price it doesn't seem like a deal breaker. I was looking around for a pawn shop semi hollow. Having no luck I ventured onto Ebay, I picked up this Turser JT-133 a couple of days ago (waiting for delivery). If it arrives in the condition it is in the ad, I will be pleased. http://www.ebay.com/...cvip=true&rt=nc They list for around $500 or less which isn't bad really, but I scored this one for less than $200 plus shipping and it looks mint. Hopefully I will be fortunate to see it not need a setup. I am really anxious rto check it out. Question: if I was to upgrade the tuners, what would be a good route/brand witout dropping major coin? By the way if anyone is looking, I have a very nice Tradition Telecaster copy for sale now. Black on black and absolutely mint. Double humbuckers, so if you are looking for that tele twang, this one is different. Asking $200. Pics available on request, but it is exactly like this one (click on 'black') http://www.tradition...rd/jr/jr_n.html
  4. Mr Hamilton is in raririfed company now. Un-fucking-believable! Had that double he belted gone just a little higher, he could've had FIVE taters! And the ones he had weren't sky balls; they were line drives. The guy is major MoFo. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/cliff_corcoran/05/08/josh.hamilton.four.home.runs/index.html?sct=mlb_t11_a0
  5. In 27 post-season games with the Yankees, Teixeira has three home runs, 12 RBI's and a batting average of .170. I never liked Tex even when he was here. I experience guilty pleasure in watching him fail, like last night when Josh Hamilton picked him off base to complete the double play!
  6. Fascinating story. These old BAA clippings are a glimpse into an otherwise unknown world. Thanks for sharing!
  7. We will be playing there once a month for awhile. We are booked through June at least. Those performances will be on Sunday nights from 7-9:30p. MAY20 jUNE17 I will repost when the dates approach. Thanks!
  8. Just a note to let anyone who might be interested know that my quintet will be playing in Dallas this coming Sunday, April 29th from 2-5 @ Free Man Cajun Cafe. Good food nice hang. Lots of originals and lots of fun. The quintet has been renamed: Greg Waits' Jazz Refugees In my group are some old friends, some of my favorite players: Greg Waits - trombone Jim Sangrey - tenor sax Terry Hankins - guitar Mark Wilson - bass Garry Granger - drums Two out of 5 are members of this very forum! Come out and support live music if you're in the area. Free Man is located at 2626 Commerce St, Dallas TX., just east of downtown at the shallow end of Deep Ellum. Adequate parking. No cover. We derive a modicum of payment from a percentage of the bar sales plus the tip jar. Hey, who is in this for the $ anyway? We hope to see you there. Come out and see the Lacy LP I sold to Jim!
  9. This will be extremely anticlimactic, but in the overall view of how many LPs Lacy is on, I don't have all that many. Not many rarities per se, and I am retaining a couple. I will try and get a list up in a day or so. I have a few LPs of other artists from my collection that I am culling out too. As soon as I get them all together I will put a list up.
  10. I have accumulated quite a selection of Lacy LPs over the years. I am interested in letting a great many of them go. If anyone is interested, let me know and I will post a list of what I have, There are some rarities among them. And all are in immaculate condition.
  11. Grandpappy once said: "Beauty is just a light switch away" "Marry a girl with small hands; it makes your willy look bigger" "If you always came back from the lake with fish, they'd call it catching"
  12. Is this on CD now? It took me what seemed like forever to find the vinyl. It is on Atlantic I think. (LPs are upstairs)
  13. Haha. Good call. (I guess you're refering to slide_advantage_redoux' post.) He probably is referring to my post. If it was an April 1st gag, I would have listed a ton of 4 digit Blue Notes along with a nice selection of OOP Mosaics! I had a copy of Elevator over the Hill already and Mssr Sangrey bought this one. That Jimmie Reed, Jr LP on Checker is an odd one. His singing didn't impress me so much, but the band has Matt Gtr Murphy. Wille Dixon et al on it. Therein lies some serious Chicago blues!
  14. I happened to be driving in a part of town I usually don't get to most of the time today. While there I saw a garage sale going on so I stopped. Holy shit I am glad I did! Talk about a goldmine!! I saw a few promising LPs, so I asked the guy how much. He says $4.00 gets the entire box. Hell yeah! Here is what I scored. Arista/Freedom Art Ensemble of Chicago - The Paris Session Gato Barbieri / Dollar Brand Anthony Braxton - Duets 1976 Roswell Rudd - Inside Job Archie Shepp - There's a Trumpet in My Soul Archie Shepp - Montreaux II Black Jazz The Awakening - Hear, Sense and Feel Black Saint Roscoe Mitchell - The Flow of Things Candid: Steve Lacy - The Straight Horn of Steve Lacy Checker Jimmy Reeves, Jr - Born to Love Me Cobblestone Neal Creque - Creque Crimson Soul Survivors - When the Whistle Blows, Anything Goes ECM Abercrombie/Holland/DeJohnette - Gateway II Arild Andersen - Shimri Arild Anderson - Green Shading Into Blue Jack DeJohnette Directions - Untitled Jan Garbarak Quartet - Afric Pepperbird Art Lande/Rubica Patrol - Desert Marauders Oregon - Oregon Crossing Barre Phillips - Three Day Moon Barre Phillips - Journey Violone II Julian Priester - Polarization Impulse Albert Ayler - In Greenwich Village Alice Coltrane - Huntington Ashram Monastery John Coltrane - The Africa Brass Sessions II Sam RIvers - Crystals Archie Shepp - Live in San Francisco Archie Shepp - New Grass Archie Shepp - Attila Blues Japo Dollar Brand - African Piano JCOA Carla Bley - Elevator Over the Hill Music Works Kazuko Shiraishi - Dedicated to the Late John Coltrane Novus Air - Montreaux Suisse Ogun Irene Schweitzer - p; Rudiger Carl - tenor sax; /Radu Malfatti - trb; /Harry Miller - bass; /Paul Lovens - drums - Ramifications (2 copies) Prestige John Coltrane - Stardust Sackville Roscoe Mitchell - Duets with Anthony Braxton Vee Jay Eric Dolphy Memorial Album Warner Brothers Rahsaan Roland Kirk - Kirkatron John Simon - Journey There are a few others, but these were the highlights. I usually wouldn't list finds on here, but this time it merits doing so. Sorry if I seem to be bragging on my luck, but I nearly crapped my pants. I was pinching myself all the way back to the van. Many were in plastic sleeves and none of them have any visual wear, as if they are unplayed. WTF!!
  15. There are a lot of Curtis sides floating around,. It seems that the same ones appear, and I have those anyway. This is a new one for me. Never saw it nor heard it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Magnificent-Trombone-Curtis-Fuller-Walter-Bishop-Jr-/320858331605?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item4ab4a599d5 Is anyone here familiar with this date? Is it noteworthy, worthy of having? Available on CD?
  16. Holy shit http://www.ebay.com/...681644258196125 But is that claim about this being the only sealed copy bogus? Sounds like it to me.
  17. Just was browsing Ebay under "jazz". I spotted a copy of Grant Green's Green Street (Blue Note) with 20 seconds left. Amazingly I managed to pull it off.....@ $2.75!
  18. My dad's LP collection was all over the map genre wise. Lots of C&W Mystic Mood sides (as a kid I fell asleep countless times listening to those schlocky orchestral arrangements with either thunderstorms or trains in the background!) But then he had tons of hipper shit: Joe Bushkin sides Leadbelly Louis Jordan/Tympani 5 Louis Armstrong (that was my first exposure to Teagarden!) Several JATP sides Keely Smith Tons of Benny Goodman small group things, along with a pretty big assortment of the standard "big band era" stuff, incl. those Readers Digest compendiums. (he used to drill me on what songs were the theme songs of various big bands) The most modern thing I ever found in his collection was Cannonball's Mercy Mercy Mercy. Whenever I would try and discuss bebop, he'd always mention how he couldn't stand watching Dizzy puff up like he did. Try as I might, I couldn't get him to just shut his eyes and dig on what he was playing!
  19. Okay, if this thread (or one similar) exists, feel free to delete this or link to the original thread. Sometimes in my searches I come across LPs that make me scratch me head...even before listening, if I actually go that far. Here is a nominee for such a list on this hallowed message board. Al Hirt The Horn meets the Hornet http://www.317x.com/...lhirt/card.html
  20. I found a nugget at Goodwill today, and after spotting it I hoped I would find the mother load from the same collector. But no. Anyway. Jimmy Rowles has always been one of my fave listens. He always brings something nice to the table. no matter if he is a sideman or leader. Here is a link to the LP (someone is selling a copy too). It is a duo LP (w/ bassist Rusty Gilder. http://www.ebay.com/...O-/200636711068 tunes: side 1 Grooveyard remind me rockin' in rhythm sunday, monday, or always * lotus blossum / prelude to a kiss side 2 it don't mean a thing... restless mah lindy lou cottontail the peacocks * http://www.youtube.c...feature=related This was recorded "live at the Fuerst's New York apartment" 1974 Halcyon records Bellmore NY Who are the Fuersts? I wonder if they are the same as the one's whose apartment was used for the famous Tal Farlow/Eddie Costa sessions in 1956. (and released on Xanadu) The label apparently is dead. Another one exists, but obviously is a different one. Any info on Halcyon. I heard a rumor that this was the private label founded by Marian McPartland. No mention of her on credits.
