  1. By all accounts, it does look like I have to buy this set. Well......what's $64, anyway? B)
  2. Did a quick AMG search and found an Anita O'Day version, here:
  3. Sorry to re-post, but I never got anyone's response to this. How does this music compare to albums like "The Cup Bearers" and "A Sure Thing"?
  4. The only thing I don't like about the booklet is the insanely confusing track listing notes. You have to cross-reference 3 different places to find out what tracks come from what albums.
  5. FAQ from that website: Is Don ill? It would seem that he is, though all 'official' statements have denied any possibility of an illness. Rumours circulate, who knows which are true. In the BBC documentary The Artist Formerly Known As Captain Beefheart John Peel stated that Don was suffering from 'a long term illness'. The 1994 poetry readings and Anton Corbijn film would also suggest that Don is unwell. This long term illness seems most likely to be Multiple Sclerosis, but this is merely speculation. His gallery and any friends still in contact with him continue to deny that he is in anything other than top shape and say that the rumours of ill health are probably just exaggerated speculation caused by Don's reclusive nature. What little evidence there is for the rest of us to go on would suggest otherwise, however. Don's illness, assuming that he is ill, is another big reason not to bother him needlessly.
  6. Not that odd, but I have a 12" promo EP called 'Eric "Slowhand" Clapton on White' with Cocaine, The Core, Lay Down Sally and Wonderful Night on white vinyl.
  7. Happy B-Day to Don from me, too. Here's a very complete website for all things "Beef": The Captain Beefheart Radar Station
  8. I believe that is correct. It's also possible that they have reached the end of the licensed period, and may never sell 5,000.
  9. Does it include the early "free" sessions she did with Albert Ayler??
  10. Got it. Love it. "Unforgettable" is great, too. He's got two top-shelf band leaders behind him on this, as well. The first half is Gerald Wilson and the last half is Oliver Nelson. Can't beat that!
  11. patricia - this is from AMG: REALLY!!! B)
  12. Yes. You put the needle on the inside part of the album and it spirals OUT. The albums themselves were called "Counterrevolutionary Music for In-Store-Play". One was R&B tunes by "Con Funk Shun", "Kool & the Gang" and more. The other album was rock with "Southside Johnny", "John Cougar" (before Mellancamp), "Scorpions", etc.
  13. I have a couple of promo albums from Polygram where the groove starts on the inside of the disk and moves OUT.
  14. If not the first.......at least one of the first. Different cover, though. (this one's ugly!)
  15. How does this music compare to albums like "The Cup Bearers" and "A Sure Thing"?
  16. Coming to Yoshi's in February: The Tony Williams Project with Jack Dejohnette, Larry Goldings & John Scofield
  17. Wow. That's fast! Usually these sets sit on the "Running Low" list for months.
  18. That's the right URL. They have "Island of Real" and "Peaceful World" CDs for $12.98.
  19. I think "Peaceful World" was originally a 2LP set.

EKE, thanks for resurrecting my thread from the BNBB morgue!
  21. I never realized that all those folks were on that album. I think I had it at one point in the early 70's. I remember that there was a "jazz angle" to it, but I probably didn't 'get it' at the time.
