I saw a version of this band a couple of years later (I guess) with Blue and Red Holloway. They looked like they were having fun.

He's in NYC playing and recording. I always like him as a player and a person.

I just started to read this one, which is very well written as these things go:

Great musician and music lover. He was always playing somewhere! There's a recording that he made with Elvin on drums (Yesterdays) that is outstanding! A great friend and mentor to hundreds, maybe thousands, of musicians. Big loss for the community.

Just the idea that such a selfish, cruel and demeaning character such as Fletcher could survive in a world that requires cooperation, empathy and understanding is outrageously upsetting. The fact the the student character is so myopic about Buddy as his one and only drumming God is almost as bad. Now, I love Buddy and saw him play many times and have been amazed by his talent and musicianship, but he really was/is a one of a kind in his own world and for a musician to be so singularly focused on his is unrealistic in a jazz college setting. For what Buddy did, he was the best. Elvin was Father Time! There is a who mean spirited vibe about the movie from the back stabbing among the other students, much less between Fletcher and the the Mr. Student Drummer, but also in his personal relationship with his "girlfriend". These are not my kind of people! Hence my craving to witness a little of the "real thing", both on a human and musical level. The big band arrangements are lame, too.

That's incredible stupid of Iverson ( and I agree with Moms ). I saw this movie last weekend and didn't like the whole idea of the film and the characters involved. When I got home I showed my wife a video of Elvin Jones playing "Three Card Molly" to answer any questions she had about the real thing (as in drummers) and to cleanse my senses.

I love the both of them! I have the Billie Holiday print (on the left) from Mr. DeCarava on my study wall.

I also have the Hanna book and was disappointed, but maybe not quite so much as you. I know one Artist that she (Cicily Janus) interviewed that after the "interview", during which she got fairly drunk and progressively stupider, told her that he wouldn't allow his piece to appear in her the book.

My opinions also. Ditto The Geoff Dyer book and Collier. The Grant Green Book written by his "Daughter in Law" is a stinker too. I rather liked "Deep in a Dream", but I understand Larry's criticism.

By the way, I did see Stephane Grapelli there (November 1974) with the Diz Disley Trio. Also on the bill was the Ronnie Scott trio.

GA - I have a Mac ( at home) so there hasn't been much of a need, but I do have ClamXav that I run every once in a while. It always finds nothing. I have a Windows laptop at work ( I hate it, but there are Windows based programs that I have to use.) that I run Malwarebytes on and it always finds something shitty. Sort of like Windows.
