I hope so. We got a Labor Day invite from a friend for that night, but we haven't committed yet. I say that because, despite the fact that I've been told many times on this board that the gig is Saturday night, my addled brain continues to think that the Magness gig is SUNDAY night and so I was planning around that! AARRGHHH!!!!

Sorry, won't be able to make it. Had hoped to, but a lot of personal affairs lately have had me feeling battered and bruised, and LTB & I have a chance to just chill at home the whole Labor Day weekend, just us two, in air-conditioned, isolated suburban splendor (or an illusory semblance thereof). Probably the best option available. Music may be the healing force of the universe, but right now that's music's and the universe's problem, not mine.

Have a good gig, enjoy Dallas the few hours(?) you're here, and hopefully there will be a next time that I can promise to try to make it out to when I get my center of gravity feeling more spunktatious, ok?

Friday September 10th, Jacob Fred Jazz Oddyssey at The Parish, Austin.

From Allmusic:

When novices discover the experimental music of the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, they are surprised to learn that there is no one named Jacob Fred — the group's name is meant to be clever and ironic. Novices also learn that the Tulsa, OK outfit's mildly avant-garde blend of jazz, rock, and funk draws on a wide variety of influences; JFJO have been influenced by everyone from electric Miles Davis and Jimi Hendrix to Sun Ra, John Coltrane, Cecil Taylor, Larry Young, and John Scofield.
