And what's the great news about the Cohn/Newman/Green? That one's been on the website for so long, hasn't it been out yet?

The Jamal is good news, that's for sure!

Flurin, the thread was started more than a year ago! ;)

And he even made several posts in it back then...

And so did I!!!!!

I'll get my coat.

to avoid confusion with a classical label.

British label, mainly Classical, that did some very good modern jazz (Michael Garrick, Norma Winstone etc). Part of the Decca group.

AND MADE SCORES - PERHAPS HUNDREDS - OF LPs OF STEAM TRAINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(And they all sold quite well!)

My dad was an avid model railroader and had many of these records. Riveting stuff. The REAL "Blue Train". :)

Denny Zeitlin's Columbia recordings will be in a Mosaic Select this fall, including an album's worth of unissued material. Confirmed by Denny during IAJE.

Buks speek.

My freshman year in college, I had a buddy from SF, a really fine pianist, who was really into Zeitlin. So I was always borrowing his Zeitlin Columbia sides to see if I could get into it myself.

The problem was, and I kid you not on this, was that I would always, and I do mean always, fall asleep halfway through a side. Didn't matter which album or which side, about halfway through the 2nd tune, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Finally, after about 6 months of this, I gave up, took my buddy at his word, and let it go at that.

So gee, I'd like to get this and check it out again, but I dunno if it makes sense to pay for sleep, especially at this point of my life.

I'd pay for some sleep... You obviously don't have a restless 3 year old...

A Select is probably cheaper than Lunesta!

As a college freshman I loved the first lp and gradually fell away as new records were released. Haven't heard any of this stuff in years.

The greatest news from Mosaic would be they will reissue on vinyl too. Damn, I bet they would sell out the Jamal's sets in a year. I'll buy it anyway even on cd, but why not exploiten the vinyl's nuts like me? I am ready, Mistress, whip my wallet harder, yesss, more, harder... :)

It is from a different genre but I had the same problem with the Low CD The Curtain Hits the Cast. While working at the store people bought it like mad and it was well regarded but no matter what time of the day I put the promo on, at home, I was out before the third song.

Never did hear the rest of the music on the CD. After a half dozen times I just brought it back to the store to give another coworker a chance to catch up on their sleep.

As one who has suggested such a set before , I welcome this news . The first two Zeitlin albums were reissued on CD by Collectables in incomplete form , so this will be the first proper reissue of this music . Those first two albums will appeal to anybody interested in piano jazz I would think .

Since Selects have a possible 240 minute playing time , it will be interesting to see if they can fit all four trio albums , plus the unissued material , plus Zeitlin's debut with Jeremy Steig which is also on Columbia and which has never been on CD . My fingers are crossed .
