  2. Thanks Joe! I have been buying from Radio Archives, but I haven't seen music offerings like what you have here. I see 331 episodes of One Night Stand for $40.00 (12 cents per show)!
  3. Does everyone know about this: https://www.otrcat.com/p/duke-ellington? As well as Ellington theres a lot of Basie, Goodman, Eddie Condon etc. You can buy cds, mp3 cds or mp3 downloads (which are incredibly cheap -$5 for 25 or so 30 minute programs). I just purchased 50 1/2 hour Eddie Condon Town Hall shows for $5. (Mainly for Pee Wee Russell). Of course you can also get a lot of old detective shows too.
  4. So it looks like I have all the Verve LPs with the exception of Hip Vibrations. From the first Fantasy period, I probably have about half of them. I think I have two Skye albums, and then a few scattered releases from after his return to Fantasy. I typically gravitate toward the Verve albums, but there is so much great stuff from that first Fantasy period.
  5. Well I understand you. Oh, that coat, how much would I like to have such a coat.

  7. Week 7 results Montreal 26...Toronto 25 The Argos led 18-7 at the half, and 25-14 after three. 8. Duke Ellington “. . .And His Mother Called Him Bill” Sony Legacy cd A moving musical tribute to Mr. Strayhorn.
  9. Hristo Vitchev Quartet “In Search of Wonders” First Orbit Sounds 2 cd set, disc 1 A very interesting jazz guitarist, in the tradition but sounding fresh. The equally interesting pianist Weber Iago is on board, a PLUS.
  10. One For All “Incorrigible” Jazz Legacy Productions cd A very modern sounding cd. . . fits well with my mood at the moment. Yes, a great document. . . thanks French CBS/Sony. I guess I don't see the similarity as strongly as you do. Lester Young Photo by Susanne Schapowalow
  11. Billie Holiday.....I fell in love with her voice when I was a kid and it has remained that way. I think very very much about vocal jazz now and also if I play with the non vocal band let´s say some ballad most of those I choose are things Billie Holiday sang. I´d say: Listening to how she does a song´, listening to the way she pronounces the lyrics and you have tons of help to get into the song, in the very very inside of it. WONDERFUL
  12. Thank you both. I'll check out the YouTube vids.
  13. And, needless to say, nowhere near as good.
  14. A very distinct musical personality!
  15. July 18 Knoel Scott - 1956 Saw him as leader of the Sun Ra Arkestra in Göttingen on November 8, 2024
  16. Eddie 'Lockjaw' Davis and Harry 'Sweets' Edison were on tour in Germany in March 1978 with the Harry Habla Trio - Harry Habla (p), Georg Linges (b), Udo Reising (dr) - and at the 'Blue Note' in Göttingen on March 13, 1978. Source: Göttinger Tageblatt
  17. Spending some time with this fascinating 3 disc document.
  18. Thanks! From the samples I've listened to now, I tend to agree (though Ol' Man Mose ain't bad - and would be danceable). Gogi Grant also seems to have a more interesting voice for that kind of material (at least to these ears ). Of course Johnny Mandel as the leader of the backing orchestra is in a totally different league and he and the likes of him would almost be a case of "buying unheard-unseen" - at that price anyway . Though in both cases I'd really like to be able to do WITHOUT those saccharine background strings on certain tracks ...
  19. I would pass. Try Gogi Grant (w/Johnny Madel) instead. It's the charts that salvage this one, And Gogi keeps her head above water.
  20. It was in all the stores. RSO, the saame label as the BeeGees. Nobody I knew cared about it, though.
