  1. Past hour
  2. When I saw him with Kenny Barron a few months ago, he didn't look 70 nor frail. I wonder if his death was sudden and unexpected or was holding in a fatal illness like Ken Peplowski, this year? RIP so sad for his family and friends.
  3. Hamiet Bluiett——Endangered Species —-( Nadja Trio jpn) ex India Navigation 1976 interesting new arrival. Band includes Philip Wilson and Olu Dara . AEOC vibes from this one
  4. Today
  5. Re-visiting this very interesting 2 cd set of Nichols music . . . . Fay Victor “Herbie Nichols SUNG: Life Is Funny That Way” Fay Victor: voice, lyrics, arrangements, bandleader Michaël Attias: alto & baritone saxophones Anthony Coleman: piano Ratzo Harris: bass Tom Rainey: drums
  6. We went to sleep early and I woke up early, my brain started and wouldn’t stop, so I’m up listening to music. I got this two UHQCD set in from The Lost Recordings in Switzerland yesterday and I’ve long wanted to hear these recordings. With Lou Levy (and the great bassist Max Bennett) these recordings sound very similar to the studio recordings recorded at the time by Stan with Lou at the piano. Great playing, excellent sound (purportedly from the original tapes for the first time) and a great way to start the day. UHQCD 1. “Stan Getz at Zardi’s” 2 UHQCD set
  7. Thanks for the info! That's a version I have not been aware of. So this is another indication that this title was in common use by the later part of 1944.

  16. The second UHQCD, the 1962 concert. Sound is excellent with Garrison perhaps heard with a bit more “presence” than Workman was on the first UHQCD. . . .
  17. and don´t forget the version announced as "night in tunisia" by mel powell and the swing sextet (uptown hall gang) recorded for the bbc´s aef (allied expeditionary forces) programme in great britain on 3rd december 1944!
  18. My copy of the 2 UHQCD set arrived today, and I have listened to the first UHQCD disc, the 1961 concert. I have had this material for some years on a Gambit cd, and the sound here is undeniably improved. Clearly, more forward and clear and dynamic.
