  1. Past hour
  2. Will be there weather permitting. A snowstorm prevented me from getting anywhere near the last Tubby's event. 😢
  3. I think he emerged around the time I left Chicago, or maybe a little after, though I believe I did see him once (struggling to remember the exact context & it was probably in NYC). Excellent player indeed.
  4. So DM me!
  5. I would have!
  6. Today
  7. Yes it is a streaming platform. When they started out uploading Schaap reels, I offered edited/audio optimized MP3 recordings but nobody every took me up on that offer.
  8. The market must be served!!!
  9. I assume this is streaming-only?
  10. Sound is surprisingly good. But the LP length playing time makes me wonder what their source was.
  11. I'm guessing the Japanese market will eventually reissue a bunch of titles. I'm hoping for an album called Kind of Blue. And another rare-ish one—Blue Train.
  12. Late

    Paul Quinichette

Don't worry if you're seeing blue dots. You didn't hit your head. It's Quinichette...frying eggs.
  13. Just don't call him Huss or Russ LOL.
  14. Possibly, though nobody I know seems to...
  15. Yes, I found out about that sometime after 2003. Sonny Red has several performances captured by Phil Schaap at the West End spanning 1976 thru 1979: https://aviary.library.vanderbilt.edu/collections/2137/collection_resources/162348?collection_resource_file_id=295705 These two are with Howard McGhee: https://aviary.library.vanderbilt.edu/collections/2137/collection_resources/141630?collection_resource_file_id=262024 https://aviary.library.vanderbilt.edu/collections/2137/collection_resources/131115?collection_resource_file_id=294954
  16. So should it be pronounced the French way.
  17. it was Denis on his birth certificate, which he found later in life and adjusted the spelling to reflect that.
  18. Who got paid for the gig?
  19. Yes, Oto maintains a really high standard of programming and has done really since it opened. I would love to hear Keefe Jackson live, lovely player. I realise I've seen the other two at, yes you guessed it, Oto. Not together though.
  20. His last date was in the late 70s with Howard McGhee and Benny Bailey. Home Run is the record.
  21. Dylan-esque for sure. Glad he did it.
