  1. Past hour
  2. This is a record that was in my father's collection, so I've heard it since childhood.
  3. without knowing the recording you´ve mentioned, i think, it is this : https://www.plosin.com/milesahead/BirdSessions.aspx?s=500700 the late phil schaap in his daily bird flight wkcr ny shows played it years ago and in one of his typical theories gave the following information about this piece: 1950 summer or july -- is not! maybe birdland -- maybe may 1953(?) -- maybe john lewis, p, maybe ray brown, b, but shure kenny clarke, dr. all other discographies have bernie leighton, ray brown and buddy rich as musicians. keep boppin´ marcel
  4. Thank you. Among many thousands of CDs it is tough to distill it down to a dozen of tracks to share. I didn't purposely go for obscure stuff for the sole purpose of stumping everyone. This process is akin to trying to introduce newbies to jazz so to do that you play them Stolen Moments, Goodbye Porkpie Hat and other essential tunes which I feel serve as a springboard in that they are tuneful and accessible. I tried to accomplish the same thing here, except you folks know your jazz. I'm enjoying the feedback and thoughts. A couple named and a few others in the ballpark. With the reveal I would say that 9 or 10 of the names should be widely recognized. 8. Early 90s, not a bad tune to be heard. I could never choose 25 records for a desert island but if I had to this would be a strong contender. I believe that T & P are now divorced although they continue to play together. Another island contender. In my opinion subsequent releases failed to capture the magic heard here. Had a chance to hang with them many years ago. Wonderful people. To me this music is genuine, sincere, and at times deeply moving.
  5. Brutal: Roman Anthony to IL with oblique strain and it sounds like he is done for at least the regular season. This is a gut punch and between that and the remaining schedule, the Red Sox will be lucky to sneak in as the third WC. Every team deals with injuries but the Red Sox lost their top two starters for 2024 innings pitched/Starts (Crawford and Houk), their 1B that they had no real back up for, and now a near-super star rookie that was igniting the offense with a .400 OBP. Brutal
  6. Ginger Baker Trio: Going Back Home. Atlantic 7567-82652-2 [EU 1994] Personnel: Bill Frisell (el-g), Charlie Haden (b), Ginger Baker (dr, voc)
  7. I am reading this so I listened to Disc Two of this.
  8. Today
  9. Jerry Garcia Band "Don't Let Go" Grateful Dead Records 2 cd set, disc 1 A great band that worked together a while, this is the May 12, 1976 concert from the Orpheum, San Francisco. Jerry is playing a Travis Bean guitar here. . . .
  10. On Monday night, Sept 1, 2025 Kenny Washington, on his Jazz Across America program on KSDS played an almost five minute recording of Bird with John Lewis, Ray Brown and Max playing "I Can't Get Started." Unlike his frequent practice he didn't identify the disc he was playing it off of, only remarking that it's a "rarity recorded at Birdland." I can't find anything on the web about this recording. Anyone know anything about it?
  11. Agreed. I'm going to wait for clarity (which I don't expect soon) before thinking about placing an import order. One positive sign: I watch Dusty Groove's "coming soon" page, and the prices indicated there for scheduled imports don't appear to reflect (presumably tariff-related) increases.
  12. Romain Pilon “Colorfield” Whirlwind Records cd A guitar led quartet with some cool sax work from Walter Smith III.
  13. Jomboy: Did Framber Valdez intentionally cross up his catcher?
  14. That's certainly great to hear, but...the last sentence in the article will continue to be an issue for a while, I suspect. "Even with the exemption, US consumers may still face challenges when purchasing from international retailers. More than 30 countries have suspended or restricted parcel shipments to the US in response to the Trump administration’s tariff rules, while some sellers remain unclear — or unaware — of the exemptions for physical media."
  15. Dave Hamblett “Light at Night” Whirlwind cd I forgot how lovely this cd is. Forward thinking but not jagged. Nicely arranged, performed and engineered.
  16. Wayne Shorter: Adam's Apple. Blue Note/RVG Edition 7243 5 91901 2 9 [EU 2003]
  17. Now spinning: Dizzy Gillespie, et al - The Bop Session (Sonet, 1975)
  18. Saw this in the theater on Monday: Good fun.
  19. They will be on tour again soon https://www.saudades.at/de/home/8161/index.html?tournr=8161
  20. Jerome Sabbagh - North (FSNT, 2004) with Ben Monder, Joe Martin, and Ted Poor
  21. I have the Kitano recordings, but that's it. I enjoy Rich's playing with the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Band and its successors. Also with the John Fedchock New York Big Band. Just last night I listened to Rich play a very nice solo on Easy Living from this CD.
