  1. Past hour
  2. Yes, Oto maintains a really high standard of programming and has done really since it opened. I would love to hear Keefe Jackson live, lovely player. I realise I've seen the other two at, yes you guessed it, Oto. Not together though.
  3. His last date was in the late 70s with Howard McGhee and Benny Bailey. Home Run is the record.
  4. Dylan-esque for sure. Glad he did it.
  5. ha, if they asked, I would! The Oto scene appears to be excellent. Last time I was in London was probably around the time it opened, so definitely overdue...
  6. The Boss being the boss, right there. Even from a distance that hits hard
  7. Nice lineup. If I leave now I might get there in time...or you could do a Café Oto takekover
  8. If you are in the Hudson Valley, I'd like to alert you to the 30th installment of "So, What Do You Think?" at Tubby's in Kingston, New York on Sunday, March 1. This concert presents the music of Chicago-based saxophonist / clarinetist Keefe Jackson with bassist Luke Stewart (Irreversible Entanglements, SILT Trio, Blacks' Myths) and percussionist Mikel Patrick Avery (Natural Information Society, BASIC). This will be a powerful evening of improvised music that is not to be missed. Doors at 7pm, concert at 8pm $20 at the door or in advance. (ticket link to follow) I might also play records before/after if there's time! Band bios attached for your perusal. We look forward to seeing you out there! Keefe Jackson Trio bio.pdf
  9. From my shelf: Philippe Carles/Jean-Louis Comolli: Free Jazz – Black Power. Fischer Taschenbuch Verlag Frankfurt am Main 1974 [German translation] Original: Éditions Champ Libre, Paris 1971 English translation: https://www.amazon.de/Free-Black-Power-American-Music/dp/1628460393
  10. Today
  11. Thanks! Getting lead sheets is possible but a lot harder than in the 90s when I went wild. Blame it on COVID and hiring freezes. Do you know who is the publisher for Cootie's music?
  12. Charles Mingus “East Coasting” Bethlehem/Solid cd 500×502 22.9 KB A favorite Mingus.
  13. There are those "Freedom, Rhythm & Sound" books but they are far more about the covers than any written content. oh, and there's this, too: https://www.dustygroove.com/item/691546/Ken-Tsukamoto-Yusuke-Ogawa:Independent-Black-Jazz-Of-America-paperback
  14. I say it again: Pramsohler is the best! Buy any of his albums with confidence.
  15. No updates from anybody, but using the Google Internet to look up my tracking #, I can see that the item has been Delayed In Dallas, which is understandable
  16. Makes sense, thanks. If someone writes an equivalent high-quality "spiritual jazz" book, I'm all in even at a crazy price.
  17. Andrew Cyrille, Wadada Leo Smith, Bill Frisell, Lebroba (ECM)
  18. Timely stuff, thanks. BTW, his 'Land of Hope & Dreams' EP from last year is magnificent.
  19. I've been doing a concentrated Jessica Williams listen the last few days. Glorious stuff.
  20. I like this one. Not released until 1995, these 1957 recordings really draw me “into” the music. A trio with Chet’s trumpet and vocals, guitar and bass.
