  3. Staring the morning off with the next disc int his massive box set. 740×411 44.8 KB Yes “Tales from Topographic Oceans” Super Deluxe Edition. cd 5 of 12, the first cd of the instrumentl mixes. Fascinating to hear this music (remixed) without the vocals.
  4. Very nice! Too bad this apparently has not been pressed on one of those "live Basie" vinyls (or CDs??). No trace in the Basie discographies of any "Shake Rattle & Roll" with Leon Thomas following the "I needs to be bee'd with" that Basie announces at the begining of this clip. Tunes like "Shake Rattle and Roll" must have been the repertoire played by Basie while he provided the backing for the Alan Freed R'n'R tours and concerts for some time in 1956/57.

    Grant Green redux

I listened to this album today, and it was like I was hearing it anew. Did Green make any other recordings without a keyboard or other chordal instrument? For contrast, I like playing this one back-to-back with Grant's First Stand. The old TOCJ's sound soooo good.
  16. Me three. I believe in Michigan (and perhaps other states) you could vote in the primary (at 17) if you would be 18 by the time of the general election. I may be misremembering of course, but I do remember that Jesse did particularly well in Michigan, winning the caucus! Now what I am having trouble tracking down is whether Michigan had a primary and a caucus even back in 1988, but I think it must have, as I voted for Jackson at a poll location and it wasn't anything like the crowded rooms of a caucus. I wouldn't have any idea how to participate in a caucus back then and certainly wouldn't have had the time. (Or maybe it was enacted just like a standard primary but they called it a caucus? That might be the most likely...) Years later, I actually saw him and David Dinkins and Mario Cuomo at a big march on Washington (Save Our Cities march, probably in 1993). RIP.
  17. That was one of the very first books that I read about the Blues, and I still consider it to be one of the best. I PMed you.
  18. There is going to be a documentary airing on PBS this Friday at 9pm titled Sun Ra: Do the Impossible, which is part of the American Music Masters series, which is the same series that aired the Max Roach documentary.
