  3. Miles Davis “Water Babies” Sony Blu-Spec CD2 I was so excited when this LP was first released. And I remain excited about this music!
  4. Are people already familiar with this video (and the other videos) on the Portal to Texas History website? https://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc1553179/?q=elvin jones
  5. Pianist on #7 sounds like Stanley Cowell. At work so can't go any further right now. Good program with a lot of tunes (but not necessarily performers) I recognize.
  6. Two different Kurt Elling albums. First: “Dedicated to You: Kurt Elling sings John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman” Then “Superblue: Guilty Pleasures, Vol. 2”
  7. The biggest PITA with some of these "WAV" downloads from bandcamp is that they don't compress to mp3 using Exact Audio Copy because they are not a standard WAV format. They give them to you at a higher bitrate WAV. I have to edit them with Audacity and save them as 44.1 kHz WAV and then they convert.
  8. 1. Nice, swinging song. Reminds me of some older Gerry Mulligan but I think it's a newer recording....maybe. The drummer betrays a more classic style. Is the bari player the leader? Tenor sounds really good. 2. Ok, I just played another version of this tune the other day and Ive already forgotten the song name. Someone will guess it immediately. This is live obviously and the tenor opens very well. Good song but no guesses. Sounds like a group of players that are familiar though. 3. Not guessing this one either. I enjoy it though. The guitarist is in full control. The singer's style is reminiscent of some of the Braxton albums with vocals. I suspect this song won't be very popular here. It seems to deconstruct more and more as it goes on. 4. Trombone on fire for the opener here. Tone reminds me of Curtis Fuller a bit. 5. Ride cymbal coming through loud and clear. Drummer and pianist are really sympatico and it's nice to hear. No guesses. 6. Sounds like a banjo here. Not sure I know any jazz banjo player. 7. No ideas here either 8. Maybe Sam Jones on cello? 9. Another familiar tune. Don't know what it is about jazz but I can rarely remember song titles. Not a problem with other genres, go figure. Anyway, bluesy piano tune that I enjoy. No guesses. 10. Beautiful tenor playing. Trombone player is no slouch. Excellent tune. Dickenson and Hawkins? 11. Love the intro. Never heard this tune before. Very nice. McPartland? 12. Live and classical, and again I can't name this familiar tune. McLaughlin? 13. Piano heavy BFT. Great playing but no guesses. 14. Not sure of who this is either. Sounds like two alto saxes? Bass solo is good, and a good groove over the whole thing. 15. Piano intro again nails it. Good song! No ideas here though.
  9. NP: David Liebman Quintet - Doin' It Again (Timeless, rec. 1979) with Terumasa Hino, John Scofield, Ron McClure, and Adam Nussbaum
  10. My bandcamp order: I got the LP version of "Split Decision" & it comes with a download. I went digital on the others because the shipping from outside the US is just too expensive.
  11. I have a copy of the LP and even when I bought it, I used a fingernail to make sure it wasn't a sticker.
  12. Next up: Ross Tompkins and Good Friends (Concord, 1978) with Al Cohn, Monty Budwig, and Nick Ceroli Al Cohn elevates this date, making it something much better than ordinary. Now that you mention it, it does indeed look like a sticker.
  13. The Heavy Hitters - The Heavy Hitters (Cellar Jazz). Listening to this on bandcamp & it's bandcamp Friday, so I may just pull the trigger.
  14. Whenever I see this LP, I always think that they did the artwork and forgot Harold's name, so they stuck a sticker on it.
  15. PM me your Facebook name and I'll go there and hit the "Invite" button.
  16. Now spinning: Harold Mabern - Rakin' and Scrapin' (Prestige, rec. 1968) OJC LP reissue Very cool. That particular line-up -- with Mraz & Foster -- only lasted for one album. Beginning with their second LP, Quest II, the bassist was Ron McClure and the drummer was Billy Hart. I've never had a chance to see Quest live, but I did see Liebman & Beirach as a duo at Mezzrow back in 2019.
  17. I saw "Einstein on The Beach" in Los Angeles about 10 years ago. An amazing work. That was a definitely bucket-list thing for me...
  18. The Desmond set is marvelous, highly recommended!
  19. I tried it and got this: This content isn't available right now When this happens, it's usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it or it's been deleted.
  20. Bandcamp Friday! I picked up a few things (dls only...) that have been on my wishlist for a while - a couple by Eric St-Laurent a local guitarist I've seen at the Rex a few times: Darn That Band https://eric-st-laurent.bandcamp.com/album/darn-that-band and El Choclo https://eric-st-laurent.bandcamp.com/album/el-choclo and Sweet as Broken Dates https://ostinatorecords.bandcamp.com/album/sweet-as-broken-dates-lost-somali-tapes-from-the-horn-of-africa (which is very much in the same vein as the Ethiopiques series) Then I got an email from Cuniforme and picked up a few of their releases as well... Doors of Perception by Raoul Björkenheim https://cuneiformrecords.bandcamp.com/album/doors-of-perception Bring Your Own by Led Bib https://cuneiformrecords.bandcamp.com/album/bring-your-own-2 and The People in Your Neighbourhood https://cuneiformrecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-people-in-your-neighbourhood also by Led Bib I did consider pre-ordering Hotel Pupik by Led Bib, but I need another track to preview. I'm not sure I am sold on their new direction.
