What Classical Music Are You Listening To?
Peter Friedman replied to StarThrower's topic in Classical Discussion

Downtown Music Gallery has a reissue LP of People In Sorrow by PlayItLoud Records or something like that. Maybe a dumb question but does anyone know if this is a good reproduction? I never got this LP but hate to pay $27 for something that sounds poor.

Oh yeah.

Ditto. I'll likely do the same but have to discern what I already have first. Completely agree... Do you have the box with Peterson and Lionel Hampton?? This one? I love it... https://www.discogs.com/release/2953586-Lionel-Hampton-Oscar-Peterson-The-Complete-Lionel-Hampton-Quartets-And-Quintets-With-Oscar-Peterson-

Dial 10" 217 (V/A, Night Music) track (Night in Abyssinia) anomaly/error?
romualdo replied to romualdo's topic in Discography
Steve, I agree that there is virtually no information (that I can find) regarding Night In Abyssinia except on the original Dial LP & The discography I listed. I have the booklet to Spotlite CD 131 & there is no mention there plus nothing in the Mosaic Dial booklet. I'd love to know what the actual track is (sonically) on the 10" LP -
Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?

I agree with Gheorghe that, if it was indeed Jimmy Scott singing on that Embraceable You, it must be one of his worst vocal performances on record, if not THE worst. It has always puzzled me for that reason. The voice sounds like Jimmy Scott, but the singing doesn't.

Duke Ellington โJazz at the Plaza Volume IIโ Columbia stereo LP A very well-recoded live event with the band very โonโ and a great vocal (one medley each) by Jimmy Rushing and Billie Holiday.

I listened to the great Savoy "Star Eyes" yesterday and appreciated Jenkins there.

Eddie Bert on the transport next, the โEncoreโ Savoy/Denon cd I really like this music. Part of the disc is a quartet with Joe Puma on guitar, the rest a quintet with Hank Jones on piano and J.R. Monterose on tenor, both have Clyde Lombardi on bass and Kenny Clarke on drums.

It was the previous OP Mosaic set that made me enjoy Peterson a bit more and since then I've paid more attention to his work. I don't have many of thes albums so I pre-ordered this set. I do enjoy the live material from this trio on the London House box set; looking rorward to this one. (The past two decades I have pre=ordered ever set. . . Mosaic is a label I trust and support).

Rain! A very unhappy dog on my lap. Starting off with another Savoy/Denon cd, โA Pair of Pianosโ โ John Mehegan and Eddie Costa with Clyde Lombardi on bass. Very nice early morning material.
