  2. In theory, labor always need representation. It's human nature to look for free stuff, or close to it. But it's also a human need to get a fair price in return for one's labor. I would think that a law standardizing a minimum royalty rate would take care of that. Of course, the devil is in the details....
  3. This is an older article but serves as a good primer: https://hyperallergic.com/153681/an-illustrated-guide-to-artist-resale-royalties-aka-droit-de-suite/ and more here: https://www.copyrightlaws.com/droit-de-suite/ I can't imagine the US in its current state of affairs adopting the concept nationally but it's promising that it is applied in the EU on some level, as well as in California (though I'm not sure if the CA law is still in effect).

  8. And the artist would need to be a member of that organization to reap the benefit? One would hope so, yes?
  9. The Red Sox have sucked me back in, so I am sure they will resume sucking soon enough.
  10. In a perfect world all those Tito Rodriguez TV shows would be collated and put in a deluxe box set (if they exist to that extent). There's some gold there. .
  11. there's not a whole lot of information about this on wikipedia but apparently this is how the German implementation works, there is an organization similar to ASCAP and BMI which represents visual artists and takes care of the implementation...
  12. They need a union/guild/whatever. Then there can be a standard contract dealing with after-market considerations.
  13. Update from Mosaic: Thank you to everyone who purchased the set. Although there was a delay, all components are now in-house, and we’ve started shipping preorders. We anticipate completing all shipments by next week. You will receive a tracking number as soon as your order ships. We truly appreciate your patience and continued support of Mosaic Records. Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
  14. This is one of my favorite Monk Quartet albums. Especially outstanding is the track on Disc 2 "Misterioso". It features some truly amazing solos from both Charlie Rouse and Monk.
  15. Thanks. I'll check it out. I can hear that. They're both coming out of Coltrane -- like nearly everyone was back then.
  16. Yes, it's £42 here. I have this by him which is great fun https://www.discogs.com/master/1056751-Akira-Miyazawa-Round-Midnight-Amazing-Jazz-Ballad He reminds me of Billy Harper somehow
  17. Ugh. Sorry to hear this. Terrible news. NP:
  18. This is an interesting / confusing discussion. I have friends that are successful artists / painters. They tell me the they get nothing when their paintings are resold on the secondary market. Apparently they can only "write-off" the cost of their materials. One has a "side deal" with a gallery where they pay him a (very) modest amount when one of his paintings is resold. I'm not an expert or an accountant / lawyer, but that's what I've been told.
  19. Just read that Sheila Jordan is in hospice. Sad news. I decided to spin this one.
  20. LaBrassBanda - Danzn (Universal)
  21. I wasn't aware that it had been reissued either -- until I saw it on Dusty Groove's site. According to Discogs, it was reissued in January of this year. I'm super-stoked that it's available again. I'm not a Japanese jazz expert, but it's definitely one of the most compelling J-jazz albums I've ever heard. EDIT The down-side of the reissue? Like many Japanese reissues, it's not cheap. It cost me nearly $50. OTOH, the one original Kiso listed on Discogs is priced at $1,649. 😬
