You can get higher quality downloads from Bandcamp than at Amazon, but if the source sound quality ain't that hot to begin with, hey -
This again: Masterful.

Horace Tapscott Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra 1971

FWIW, download is much cheaper on Amazon than on BandCamp ($6.45 vs. $12). I bought it this morning despite reservations about the horn players and the meh sound quality, and will also pick up the 60 Years download. Love Tapscott's work. - Today

I think Ken is still active at the LAJI and you could ask online whether some copies from his members series are still available. Havent any Information everything was sold out.

Good catch. It was here: Horace Tapscott & Pan Afrikan People Arkestra - Live at IUCC 11/2678 2CD - Page 15 - New Releases - organissimo forums ,where it was noted that PAPA has started their own bandcamp releasaes.

I believe there already was a thread in this or maybe it was mentioned in a Tapscott thread. I’ve listened to the samples but can’t say I really enjoy the playing by most of the band members. I already have a whole lot of PAPA records with his excellent regular band members so this is a pass for me

The Dodger starters so far have been incredible. Reminds me of the days of Koufax/Drysdale.

It's too bad that the LA Jazz Institute doesn't use these ultra-rare CDs to raise money for their organization instead of just using them as a perk for members. I'd especially be interested in that 7 CD box set they put out 2 years ago. If anyone knows where there's one for sale, let me know.

On to the clues. For 3 and 4, Thom's phrase "familiar adjacent" is definitely in play. Horns from 3 and 4 have appeared on BFTs in this decade. A participant in this BFT has praised the album containing 3 on this forum. A horn from 4 has been described as a favorite by one of the participants in this BFT, but on a different horn. And a participant in this BFT included a track from the same album as 4 in a BFT from an earlier decade. 6 is more of a challenge. Recorded in 2007. The sax has recorded several albums as leader, but a different member of the band may be more familiar to the participants.

One of the finest Ellington tributes/programs that I've heard.
