I was there at the 1995 concert. That rendition of the Lenny White tune was unforgettable.

Today, I went to our county Library Sale. I brought home 19 CDs -- all at $2 per disc. Most of them were classical CDs. Not much selection jazz-wise. But still good fun.

All Up in the Biz is a doc on him that came out a few years ago. Streams on several platforms I think. Definitely worth the watch. Dude had a big unique personality

It's a bit tricky, but I've found over the years that unless something has just been listed in the last few hours you are usually good. If there is a price attached to something not marked New (or that is marked New and has been on the site for at least a day) then you are good to go. I have only ever been scooped by things that were brand new listings.

Can't tell if you're joking but Biz is a hip hop legend. He was a central figure in the early NYC scene, discovered Rakim, and was a music loving DJ. Personally I'd love to hear this mix along with the others.

Took home two total obscurities today - found at 2.50 EUR each in the special offer bins: 1) Joe Burton Trio, "Subtle Sounds" (Joday Records JD-1000): https://www.discogs.com/release/16826433-Joe-Burton-Subtle-Sound Clearly a reissue (despite what Discogs says), but I am sort of amazed at the prices this seems to sell for elsewhere. Looks like one of those 80s facsimile reissues that are neither Fresh Sound nor VSOP but likely US-based. BTW, in case anyone knows: Am I right in assuming that this Joe Burton is NOT the pianist Joe Burton listed in the discographies (e.g Bruyninckx) who recorded for Trend, Regent and Coral from 1953 to 1957 and is lumped in with the above LP artist in the listing there. His bio in the digital version of Bruyninckx does not read like any of the info on the back cover of this Joday LP. (No, I had not been familiar with any of these Joe Burtons but at these prices I am inclined to take chances with obscure records from the 50s/early 60s) 2) Swiss All Stars (CD reissue of a rare recording from 1964) on Sonorama (!) Agree. Checked it out this morning. I just transferred an audience tape to digital yesterday. Fine playing, but no real fire. Ballads and mellow improvisations. What could have been... “Music For Loving” Ben Webster with Strings 2CDs Verve, disc 2 Interesting music to chill with . . . Harry Carney is also featured with strings on this disc. This is one of the Verve cds that benefits from phase reversal on my DAC.
