Sound varies depending on the original alums. Some is very rare. The Verve with Brookmeyer is the jazziest, with a killer solo from Schifrin on the longest track. As with Sergio Mendes or Joao Donato all is a bit on the lighter side. They all were under more commercial presurd than jazz pianists, it seems to me. I would like to tell you more, but ghis is one of my temporarily misplaced items .....

Max on the intro, playing 3/4 over Duke's quarter note triplets...a delight, and delight first, then analysis. Always.

These DJ mixes released by Blue Note Japan in the late 90s were a nice introduction to all the samples that had been used on rap songs.

The Sound Of Lalo Schifrin

I like him and enjoy the stuff with Dizzy. I used to love those tv themes like Mannix but am not sure I want to go the whole 16 disks. What are his best jazz albums? Is this euro-compilation good? -

I like that album (Blank Canvas).

I own the 5 CD version of this from 2016, which focuses on his 60's Verve releases (9 LP on 5 CD IIRC). Interesting listen, though not life-changing. I have no interest in 16 CD version which stretches into the 21st century, though neither version should break the bank in terms of $ per disc.

The beautiful Yuja Wang -
Ok, will do. I'll prob work on it this weekend and hopefully put it in the mail by Monday/Tues.

I love that idea! I was going to step in if nobody else did, but June or July work much better for me, so if you're up for it, that would be stellar!

If we don't have any one for April yet I can throw something together and hopefully get it in by fools' day. Has anyone else signed up?

What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.

You might be right, there is something a little off with them. But overall I like her take on the songs themselves. Apparently she's also done an ELO covers album and also one for Olivia Newton John, as artists she looked up to when she was younger or something. I haven't heard those. -

It could definitely have worked out with some more preparation. I think Rivers’ more aggressive free approach would work pretty well with Mals dark clusters
