  2. Congrats! Will give it a listen soon.

  4. Sorry, we've got family in from out of town. Yeah, nice offering, like the added percussion. And totally agree with you about singers. Singing and dancing, no matter how abstracted, pretty much is what I want to hear in any music. It's what makes things human "Songs"...not so much for me these days, but really getting inside a song, any song, is not for the faint of heart. Finding truth never is . Keep putting it out there. Glad you're doing it;

  6. The Raiders got marketed as teeny-bopper, but I swear that a fair amount of their stuff hits harder today than ever. Pure Garage Rock with a Columbia production budget. They belong in the R&R HOF, joke that it is, as much as anybody.
  7. Griot Galaxy Live at the DIA
  8. That was an early favorite of mine. "Kicks", too! The last year or so I've been listening to a lot of David Sylvian, Mick Karn and Richard Barbieri albums. Great stuff!
  9. Yesterday
  10. It got reissued somehow a few years ago on BGP or some label like that. Maybe a Japan thing. Dusty Groovee had it.
  11. I seem to remember late (like December) of 1996 but it may have been later. No matter when it started, it wasn't around for very long. I hung out at various Jazz forums back then and even the AAJ and The Jazz Corner forums held on longer than the Blue Note board.
  12. I found it at Blue Note Records in Miami years ago, about $20 IIRC. Doubt I would have recognized it though had I listened to the track.
  13. 👍 Now: This is a very good CD.
  14. Scofield's sideman appearance on the Ray Drummond disc above prompted me to pull this one from the shelf: with Joe Lovano, Charlie Haden and Jack DeJohnette
  15. Reissue of Aketa's Disk release. Despite the weird cover, it's fun listening and definitely interesting.
  16. Wow! Crazy rare album, off my radar.👍
  17. I must admit, until a few years it was the same here. I tried to avoid gigs with singers, but now I love it, it´s a great art to really get into the songs, to play the verses of songs, learn the lyrics, and I am very pleased that my great singer Lili Maljic performed my compositon "Tune for Pharoah" with such a great dedication. Meanwhile, though Lili is my favourite singer, I work also with other singers, since we all in my formation have our own comittments in other musical surroundings, of course. As soon as the album was released, it was already history for me since I already signed for the next album and we´ll be in the recording studios again in autumn. I composed a new ballad and Lili works on the lyrics for it, because that´s the purpose of ballads.... Anyway, even here in the Forum I got help from @JSngry years ago, when I had to play a gig with a singer and asked in the Musician Forum for some advices. Where is @JSngry ? I would love to read a feedback from him on that latest record of mine, especially because it has a great female singer !
  18. Ray Nance Huffin’n’Duffin Ray Nance: Trumpet, Violin, Voice Kenny Drew: Piano Ron Matheson: Bass Daniel Humairi: Bass It,s a very nice work. It seems with Amstrong influence in the trumpet and Ellington in album structure. Violin touch add a nice sound to the album. Higly recommended😀
  19. More Ray Drummond: Bass – Ray Drummond Flute, Bass Flute, Alto Flute – Thomas Chapin Trumpet – Randy Brecker Guitar – John Scofield Vibraphone – Steve Nelson Piano – Kenny Barron Drums, Percussion – Marvin "Smitty" Smith Percussion – Mor Thiam
  20. Had no idea the BNBB was active in 1996 - sounds early but around that time I think I barely had email and was using a friend's WebTV box to access! Must have been a few years before I found my way to Jazz BBs.
  21. The Blue Note forum was only around for about 7 years (1996-2003), so this forum has outlasted it by quite a bit.
  22. The way-too-short "Way Out West" ended, so it's on to Kenny Dorham's "Live At The Cafe Bohemia" 2-CD set. I'm listening to disc 1 of the Ron McMaster CD set now and it sounds pretty good... well, except for the piano, which sounds a bit off. Sustained notes have a bit of warble. Probably on the master tape. This is coming out as a 3 LP/2 CD Tone Poet reissue soon. I'm going to pass on this one, as I think my old double-CD set will suffice. Sometimes it's good to have lost that upgrade itch. I think I've finally come to realize that my ears are fucked up enough at this point that it's money poorly spent to upgrade anything. That said, even my shitty ears can hear the lousy piano sound here.
  23. Well that has to be the case unless the internet pre-dated the implosion date by 23 years.
  24. Bass – Ray Drummond Saxophone, Flute [Right Channel] – Joe Lovano Saxophone, Flute [Left Channel] – Craig Handy Piano – Danilo Perez Drums, Percussion [Right Channel] – Marvin "Smitty" Smith Drums, Percussion [Left Channel] – Mor Thiam
