  1. Past hour
  2. It was right next to Bob James' Explosions, how could I not?
  3. Grew up in the 70's and was very much into Bob James, Grover Washington Jr, Spyro Gyra, and Chuck Mangione. 60's Bob James? Wow. These are the only Bob James I kept.
  4. From recent discussions, dug this one out: πŸ‘
  5. Today
  6. Just now - three Yahtzees, not sure I've had that happen in any type of the game. Final score = 515!!!
  7. on 4, it's your BFT from a previous decade!

  8. Thanks, Thom. I own the album of #3, have posted it on a listening thread on the forum but don't recall outright praising it (though it's good). Completely whiffed on the ID...a Tribe lineage even occurred to me, but memory failed and the tune didn't seem familiar enough. The hint got me thinking again in that direction, but I didn't get around to following up. 😞
  9. Pharoah Sanders: 2 CD ORTF set
  10. Okay, the clues got to me. Another listen to 3 reveals Phil Ranelin as the trombone, and I'll eat my hat if that's not Roy Brooks. That was the when the twig snapped. Check, sure enough, this is sitting in the stacks. Would not have gotten there without the hints (and I LOVE Wendell, but not so much here). It's B2 from this. No such luck on 4. Still brings me to Thomas Chapin. Only thing I know for sure, it's not Braxton, because I'm not ready to enact drastic self-harm (just can't do Braxton). Head definitely has shades of Threadgill, but this doesn't hit me in the feels the way HT does. On track 6, I still can't net the tenor. Serious chops, but... I don't really *like* it. Yes, I'm being curmudgeonly. I feel like Chico Freeman or Peter Apfelbaum could really make this work. This just doesn't really have the fire those guys would bring. I mean, there's fire, but I'm not buying. Feels very... practiced. Chops to spare, but I don't hear the story. Looking back, my ear still brings me to the guesses I initially made, which, evidently were wrong. πŸ˜•
  11. You can get higher quality downloads from Bandcamp than at Amazon, but if the source sound quality ain't that hot to begin with, hey
  12. This again: Masterful.
  13. FWIW, download is much cheaper on Amazon than on BandCamp ($6.45 vs. $12). I bought it this morning despite reservations about the horn players and the meh sound quality, and will also pick up the 60 Years download. Love Tapscott's work.
  14. I think Ken is still active at the LAJI and you could ask online whether some copies from his members series are still available. Havent any Information everything was sold out.
  15. Good catch. It was here: Horace Tapscott & Pan Afrikan People Arkestra - Live at IUCC 11/2678 2CD - Page 15 - New Releases - organissimo forums ,where it was noted that PAPA has started their own bandcamp releasaes.
  16. I believe there already was a thread in this or maybe it was mentioned in a Tapscott thread. I’ve listened to the samples but can’t say I really enjoy the playing by most of the band members. I already have a whole lot of PAPA records with his excellent regular band members so this is a pass for me
  17. The Dodger starters so far have been incredible. Reminds me of the days of Koufax/Drysdale.
  18. Miles Davis: More Cookin' At The Plugged Nickel. Sony Records Int'l SRCS 9754 [Japan 2001]
  19. πŸ‘ my CD from 1998 ...
