I wouldn't say Immanuel Wilkins "claims primary inspiration" from Desmond--I'd be very surprised if he did--but I hear strong elements of his sound at time in Wilkin's own sound. I love them both.

Are there any reed players who claim primary inspiration or some other form of artistic descent from Paul Desmond? I'm always struck by how much I love his playing every time I listen to his records.

HA! I have no idea. I only recently got turned on to Swervedriver, and don't know that much about them. I listened to disk 2 this afternoon! Been on a major Jansch/Pentangle binge lately. Such a unique band! -

An hour in and I think they've done a really good job on this; connecting his roots, music and philosophy in a cohesive presentation.

Unfortunately we just unplugged and turned in our cable box yesterday — before our move to Pittsburgh in two days (this Monday). Will have to watch it on Passport in the next few weeks when I can (we’re PBS subscriber/supporters, NPR too).
